Muchies

Hey Guys - I haven't ever posted on the message board before, but something is really bugging me - please help if you can. I was doing really well with fitness and nutrition until about two months ago - I just get the munchies ALL the time. Mostly healthy stuff, but sometimes CRAP. I know I'm not drinking enough water and maybe that will help - and I haven't been tracking calories well lately. I just don't know where this is coming from!! Is anyone else struggling with the munchies?

Just drink more water, be sure to get your 8 glasses and that feeling should pass by. I used to be the same way, where I would find myself eating because I was bored. It helps when you log faithfully, if I log everything I'm eating it helps me map out and plan for the day ahead on what will work into my calorie goal.
You can get past the munchies, I know you can! Just takes a little getting used to:flowerforyou:0 -
Thanks so much!!
It really helps to talk about it, too!! For so long - my health & fitness and weight issues were some kind of secret. But, having the help and support of great folks is AWESOME!!0 -
Ah, the muchies. I get those all the time.
Anyway, when I get a craving for something, I eat it. Seriously. I have been craving enchiladas, so yesterday I made a healthy-ish version and worked them into my day. I have a square of coconut chocolate every night to satisfy my chocolate craving and last week when I really wanted some tortilla chips, I ate some. I try to find the ones with the fewest ingredients and portion them out. In this exercise, portion control is very important. Also, if you REALLY don't want to eat whatever devilish deliciousness you're pining for, just eat something else. Sometimes, I find I'm craving a deep fried chocolate bar so I eat a bowl of oats with peanut butter and molasses and then I am no longer craving what I had originally wanted. Sure, you can drink enough water to make you pee for four hours a day but that sounds a little boring to me.

I think the best thing to do is keep recording what you eat even if it is crap. The awareness of the amount of calories, fat, and lack of fiber or potassium I am putting (or not putting) into my body has helped me to think differently about food. It is very hard to change eating habits. I am bummed about the smaller amount of food that I have to get used to. The people I've seen who have success took a long time to accomplish it. It is the daily input of junk over a long period of time that give us the fat bodies that we don't like. Seeing the daily results of my choices in the diary here has been a real eye opener. My challenge to myself is to find healthier and effective ways to comfort and bring joy to myself other than eating - which is hard.0

Good point. When somebody gave me a pecan coffeecake to take home when I left their party I discovered that a raw pecan and dried apricot activated the same taste sensation as eating the coffeecake! Weird huh?0

If I get the munchies, I munch.
Whatever your calorie allowance is, leave some room in it each day for munchies. Don't use all your calories for breakfast, lunch and dinner. LOG EVERYTHING, every little munch. You can stay within your calorie goals and stll munch. You know you want to do it, so plan for it... that way it doesn't wreck everything.0 -
I get the munchies all the time, but I thing I found that helped me was just to think 'Do I really need this, will it help my body get to where I want it to be' and it usually distracts me and puts me back on track
. Trying to remember that every piece of food I use will affect my body shape. Good Luck
