Oblique workouts make your waist thick?

Just wondered if anyone knew for definite if this is true as I was reading someones post about ab workouts the other day and someone replied that they don't do any obliques as it thickens your waist. I've never heard this before so it made me think maybe I shouldn't do them either as my small waist is probably the best part of my body!
Any ideas??

Not sure I buy this one.
Having strong obliques is a wonderful thing to help support your other muscles and back...it's silly to ignore a muscle for such a reason. If anything, you may end up having a more shapely, defined waist...not thicker waist. Unless you are a heavy lifter and doing A LOT of strength training, I don't buy it.0 -

i don't buy it either. while i'm not going to say it's not possible - SOMEone out there is going to have the quirk of DNA that makes this true - i'm going to say it's not likely. you WANT a strong core. and, as you shred off weight, defined muscles make you look thinner and fitter.
besides, OP, you said you're prone to a small waist anyway, that pretty much assures that your waist will be tiny. it takes a LOT of training to one-up your DNA.0 -
Bump - I'm curious to hear opinions about this...0

I wouldn't think you'd get bulky unless you're doing high-resistance work.0

It seems as though (from what I have been reading) that you would only thicken your waist if you are doing oblique workouts with weights. So I'm happy enough that I wont lose my wasit from doing 'normal' oblique crunches etc. Thanks for your responses guys.0
