I just started using MFP. I'm looking to lose about 30lbs. I'm 24 and have two kids, 2 (almost 3) years and 4 years. I stay home with them and go to school online (currently on summer vacation). I'm looking for any suggestions on diet plans, meals, foods, snacks, breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc. Anything! Any tips or suggestion on what to eat, what not to eat, when to eat, how often, how much, etc. Any responses would be greatly appreciated. And I wouldn't mind some more supportive friends either, so feel free to add me as a friend.

I have tried a lot of diets, but just recently (this is day 3) started doing the paleo/primal approach. There are a lot of variations to it, but the basic is that you don't eat processed foods, grains, sugar or dairy. A great site I like is marksdailyapple.com. I have lost 3.4 lbs. in 3 days. It's definitely an adjustment, but I like that it's more of a natural approach.

Just put in your goals and let MFP choose your calorie limit, to start.

Eat what you like and things that are higher in calories, try to find alternatives or ways to enjoy them with less calories (it's amazing how making your own snacks can save your cals, preparation of food, etc).

What works for everyone else may not work for you so trial and error and you'll find your way.

    Best of luck!

I am 21(almost 22) year old mom of a 2 year old boy and soon to be wife (May 18, 2012). The Only tip(s) I have for you is to drink at LEAST 8 glasses of water a day and eat about 1200 cals a day. Make good food choices, you can have junk once in awhile, cut out pop and juice.....I haven't exercised much and I started this in January and I have lost 28 lbs already. Feel free to add me. I always like making new friends.

There is an awesome free app called dietpint and it gives you so many diet ideas they have diets from all protein to just wanting to shed the holiday weight. I recently did a apple diet and I lost 2lbs in 5days. It also has a reminder that it sends to your phone when its time for your meals and snacks. It also tells you exactly what to eat and what to buy at the grocery store. Good luck I hope this helps you. I too want to lose 30lbs and I'm 23yrs old with a 2year old boy. I stay at home with him so I know how frustrating it gets but I really hope this works for you :)

Start logging everything. It's a bit of a slog at first, but you get used to it and it's REALLY helpful. Not least because, if you read the boards here, you'll come across a ton of different opinions about how to lose weight / lose weight THE RIGHT WAY. So, to keep your sanity, note what you eat and drink, note your exercise but do that one with eyebrow raised re MFP's rather high exercise cals burned estimates and see what's working for you.
If you've never dieted before you might find it comes off quite easily. Once it's off, make every effort in the book to not let it come back. (That's what I wish I'd done.)

 I just had a baby 7 months ago and i am also looking into losing 30 to 40 lbs I am 29 and I also have a 12 year old.If you drink soda stay away from it. I quit drinking it three months ago and I lost 10lbs alone with just no soda. For breakfast i eat cottage cheese and cracker chips most of the time but I also heard that special k cereal works. I eat what i want food wise but potion control is the key. I stay away from junk food for the most part. If you crave chocolate eat dark because its better for you. My main thing is everything in moderation. I also exercisa on a daily basis weather its walking 2 miles a day or doing Zumba on the Wii. Zumbaa burns a lot of calories. Hope I was helpful.
