I pick at food way too much, sometimes I don't even know I doing it! Today I was cooking pasta for some kids I look after and before I knew it I had eaten a couple of bits of pasta and then, when I was grating cheese, I just had a bit of that too! I know its a really bad habit, my mum does it constantly too but does anyone have any ideas as to how I can break this awful habit?!

My only suggestion would be to make your portions smaller once you sit down to eat, if you know you were just picking at food. I have some terrible habits too, and for me it is such a subconscious thing that I simply can not control them. The only thing I can do is make up for it once I realize I have done it.

Chew on some sugar free gum while you are preparing meals. This way, you already have something in your mouth and be less tempted to pick at food.

I was going to say gum as well. I had to make chocolate covered pretzels for work last week, so I popped some gum in my mouth before I got out the ingredients. I didn't even have a taste of chocolate, and that's a huge temptation for me.
  • ugh that's one of my worst habits. I do it ALL the time. Especially if I'm cooking with cheese. Like everyone's said, chew gum. It helps me a lot :)

I do it too!! Sometimes I will munch on a few baby carrots while I cook or just keep a big glass of ice water nearby!

I usually have a glass of wine when I'm cooking.

Great advice about the gum! I have noticed that while I chew gum I don't get that hungry so often....
