Potassium

Hi to all my MFP buddies. My potassium level is low (it's one of the items I track on my daily log). What can I eat to meet my potassium goals? I take a supplement - but it doesn't even put a drop in the bucket. The reason I'm trying to eat more is because I keep getting this weird kink in my back and boosting my potassium does seem to ease it a bit.

Any ideas?

Thanks much!

Green coconut water is a good source.

I have the same issue. I thought bananas would help but they didn't help as much as I'd hoped. But beans have been tremendous. And baked potatoes. Any day when I eat baked beans I have a tendency to go over my potassium goal by a little bit. I used a high potassium food list from the net to help me find things I'd actually eat that would help get me there.

I found out that potassium isn't required by the FDA to be on nutrition labels, so some food labels have it and others don''t have it listed. So it might not be as low as it shows.

I track potassium and usually meet the goals.

Low sodium v8 is amazing if you don't have a lot of calories to play with.
Milk is great. So are beet greens but they're sort of a pain to get so I only get them if I've been under several days in a row.
    Potatoes are great.

Sometimes the potassium info for something hasn't been entered -- the USDA entries usually have it included though.

Most meats, fruits, and vegetables have a bit. Grains and non-liquid dairy tend to be lower.

Certain berries have tons of potassium. By the way, have you spoken to your dr. about this? Especially if you're taking potassium supplements... that can be dangerous.

How do you track your supplement intake? Have you had potassium levels checked by a lab?

    Avocado and Baby Spinach

Edit.. there is something called NO Salt and it's made of potassium chloride instead of sodium.. A small shot is a lot of potassium!

Having too much potassium can through your cardiac rhythm out of whack. Have you spoke to your dr about this? That being said my potassium levels are on the low side when I track them and I did buy dried apricots and banana chips. I also googled foods high in potassium.

Talk to a Doctor, not the internet.

    Also, strawberries.
