Problem...

I've been gorging myself at supper. I try to eat through out the day so that I don't over eat at dinner but I can't seem to control myself. It's so hard to eat often to keep myself from being hungry but stay within the 1200 calories a day. I've also given myself a hard time because I skipped out on my exercising over the weekend. I've come down with a cold and my chest hurt to bad to exercise. It felt like I had started smoking again.

It's hard to stay within my calories when they are so low and my husband's is so high... in order for him to maintain he has to eat 2500 calories a day, me to loose I have to eat less than 1300 but ofcourse no less than 1200... so I HAVE to exercise to get my calorie deficit.

I'm frustrated...

  • I've been having the exact same problem!
I do so well throughout the day, eat healthy meals and reasonable portions...
Then comes dinner time and I overeat!
    SO FRUSTRATING!
I think you should consider upping your caloric intake to around 1400-1500 for a day or two and see if that helps.
Perhaps your body is trying to tell you that it cannot sustain itself on that few of calories.
After dinner, eat what's on your plate, and immediately go do something!
Take a walk, work on a project.
    Anything to distract yourself.
    Good luck! You'll do great.

I am right there with you! my husband has to have 2,500 as well, and of course I am the one cooking his dinners, and then there is my tiny dinner. I usually do well, until right before I go to bed. I have even tried going to bed earlier to avoid this craving, which does work most nights.

I can relate here. Last night, I was killing myself trying to finish my strength training after my cardio & stretching while my boyfriend sat on the couch eating cake AND a 200 calorie popsicle *watching* me exercise. :grumble:

He's been losing just as much weight as I have just by eating the healthy meals I'm cooking. He's not exercising, and he's stuffing his face with extras. I weigh nearly 50 pounds more than him (and I'm 5'4" and he's 5'11"). Oh so unfair.

I'm just ignoring him, really. It's not about him. This is about me, for my own good. Trying to keep up with how he eats is how I gained these last 40 pounds in the first place.

  • Don't be so hard on yourself. The key is never give up. If you don't master it today you always have 2morrow. This isn't a sprint it's a marathon so pace yourself. You can do it. I believe in you, so believe in yourself. Drink 2 glasses of water right before you sit down to eat and see if that helps. :flowerforyou:

I apologise for this jlb123, but your description was just SO funny! I feel your pain however....Hang in there!
  • My Husband has tried to maintain his weight and do more weight lifting... I've been working my BUTT off to loose weight and I stay put and he looses... How fair is that I workout and he looses the weight???
  • When dinner is a high calorie "treat" or just something I know I might eat too much of I alway eat a salad with fat free salad dressing first. That way there's less room in my tummy for the main course. I love pizza and could easily eat 3-4 slices, but by doing this I can only eat 1 or 2. I still get my pizza fix, but don't have to beat myself up the next day :)
  • I know how you feel! I seem to want to pig out at night.. I am fine all day. Maybe it is because during the afternoon I am sitting there not keeping myself busy.

I used to always over eat at dinner too. I found that the problem was:

#1) I was starving by the time I made it to dinner time, because there was usually about 5+ hours between my afternoon snack and the time I had dinner.
#2) I would have dinner with people that ate a lot slower than I would...so I kept eating as long as they were eating. I'd just keep loading more food on my plate and then would be miserable later!

I solved #1 by working in a morning snack, and then shifting my lunch and afternoon snack to later in the day. I also made sure that I had either protein & produce, or protein & a whole grain for my snack. 100 calorie snack packs are not filling and are IMO a waste of calories. I'd rather have a 200 calorie snack with protein that will help me feel satisfied and keep my blood sugar balanced.

I solved #2 by serving myself a reasonable portion of food, and then instead of getting seconds when I was done, I would rinse my plate and put it in the dishwasher right away. Then I would go back and join my family around the dinner table. I realized that I never actually needed 2nd helpings...even if I still felt a little hungry when I put my plate away, 15 minutes later I would be full...it just takes a while for the stomach to register that!
