Goal jeans fit, now help me tone my tummy!

Almost ALL of my jeans fit me now that I have lost 29lbs, but I am still wearing LG/XL shirts because my tummy is still sticking out. What can I do to tone this trouble area? I have a weight bench downstairs but I don't know what to do with it. I jog some and walk a lot. I know crunches and sit ups are good, but what else works for you all? I want to wear a swimsuit with confidence this year! Help me PLEASE!

Toning is a myth. The look you want is achieved by lowering body fat while gaining or maintaining muscle mass. You need some sort of resistance training. If you don't have gym access with barbells and dumbbells, look into body weight programs like the book "you are your own gym" or something like that. I prefer the pick up heavy stuff option so I don't really know the best resources

Yes, what I meant by "tone" was "get rid of the pudge" I have heard a lot of ladies saying that lifting has helped them achieve a flat stomach, I just dont know what specific exercises to be doing. Our weight bench has a barbell and the [leg curl? Bar?] like I said, I have no idea where to start with that!

The only thing you can do for belly fat is to lose more weight. Lifting helps in weight loss, and I recommend you look into the big four compounds (squat, deadlift, press, and bench press).

Core training helps to build muscle and in turn burn the fat. There are lots of DVD's out there, I just started a Jillian Michaels one called 6 week 6 pack that combines core training and throws some cardio in for calorie burning. Only done two days but I can feel it!

you should try incorporating "reverse crunches" in your workout. They are intense & should help pull in your lower abs & make them better toned than regular crunches

You can try belly dancing, it works lots of the core muscles, plus no equipment needed!

also vacuum exercises work too. Youtube it. You can do them all day and i have pulled in an inch on my tummy. My core is weak and that makes the rest of me weak. My ab muscles seperated from pregnancy and that is starting to pull back, finally...only too this exercise and 7 years lol.

I wish! That would be historical though. Maybe try it for laughs one day!

Search YouTube for ab workout videos like "8 minute abs."

Agree with other poster about doing squats and deadlifts using your barbell.

Do planks. Work your way up to holding the plank position for 2 minutes; remember to SQUEEZE your belly. I do 3 sets of 2 minutes each almost every day.

Make a small investment in a swiss ball and do the exercise below (cut & paste into your browser). I'm 5'6" tall and use a 65cm ball. It made a huge difference in the appearance of my stomach. Start by doing 2 sets of 8, then 2 sets of 10, then 3 sets of 12, then 3 sets of 15. I do them almost every day. It's the BEST ab exercise! It just takes practice.
