Insanity and MFP

Question - so the Insanity nutritional guide basically told me to lose weight I needed to eat 1700 calories. MFP tells me I need to eat 1200. I'm 4'10 and 125 so I know I don't always need to eat the norm. What did you follow when you did Insanity, the calories per the nutrition guide or MFP? Did it work?

I would definitely use what Insanity recommends. It takes into account the intensity level of the workouts you are doing. Insanity is very intense and therefore you need more calories to sustain.0

Well the other thing I forgot to mention is that i only burn 300 calories doing Insanity (the first month). Which to me doesn't seem that high.0

I've been thinking the same thing. I'm 4'10" too and the Insanity guide says 1700ish for me but MFP says 1200. I always try to eat as much as my body allows me to anyway. Usually that's about 1200ish calories. I think I'm gonna start switching my milk and yogurt from fat free to full fat to get more calories in.0

If MFP says 1200 but then you add in the 300 from your workout, you should really be eating 1500 which is CLOSE to the 1700 insanity recommended... so seems like something from 1500-1700 (call it 1600!) would be good...

The Insanity recommendations are right on for me - I eat 2400 calories at the LEAST and up to 3000 depending on if I'm still hungry. I'm 5'6, 27 years old, and 203 pounds0

i thought this thread was about something else.0

Agreed, I don't think the Insanity plan counts eating back your calories like MFP does, so if you eat them all back you're really eating 1500. I would listen to your body, if you're tired, cranky, always hungry I would up your calories, I know I did and I feel a million times better, less likely to binge and not as worried that I just ate lunch and I only have 300 calories left for the day. I would say aim for a total of 1600 which if you're burning 300 would net you right around 1300 if that makes sense0 -
Both formulas are full of assumptions. I would start at 1300 for a week and see what your body does. Problem with both is that they are vague and GENERAL. What works for me may not work for you. So it's kind of crazy to go by a formula. Get a starting point and dial in from there. Keep track of your weight for a week and then see if you need to go up or down. Honestly for your weight and height, it will most likely be 1200-1400.0

There is a calculation you can do to find your own measure although I am 5'7 and 12 stone mine works out 1832 so I would go with insanity. More is better as long as it is good natural food0
