Running shoe...what do you recommend?

I am looking to buy some new running shoes. I am looking for overall comfort (especially for shock absorbance! since my knees tend to hurt) and support but I need them to be lightweight. What do you suggest for me? Pictures are also very helpful :-)

I suggest you go to a specialty running store and let them fit you for the right shoe. Don't worry about brand. Take their suggestions and go with the one that feels the best from the selections they recommend.

    good advice!!
Its always best to get properly fitted and go for the shoe that suits for feet / running style best, not one that you like the look of!
The main running shoe brands tend to specialise in running shoes and don't do normal 'fashion' trainers - asics, brooks, new balance, saucony etc.
i saw a lady in a sports store the other day choosing running shoes because they matched her Tshirt :noway:

I agree with going to a run store. I ended up needing a stability shoe. Right now I have been using Asics Kayano's for about 3 years and I really like them. I might change them up next time around and look at some Mizuno's.

I don't run that far..2-3 miles (but hopefully I'll push myself more when I have nice new shoes) I DO walk long distances though...sometimes up to 10 miles...I am not looking to break the bank either... just need some mid-range shoes. Anything I get can't be worse than the $25 dollar worn out-department store ones I own now...

A lot of running stores will have last years models on sale :-)
Once you have been fitted and you know which shoe you need, you can get your next pair cheaper from the internet.

totally depends on what type of foot you have...previous postings i agree with...go have your foot looked at at a speciality store...they will have you take your shoes and socks off and run in the store (if they know what they are doing) and they will fit you just right.

for me, I had always been wearing ASICS but they were not good for me for long distance...so when i went to our local speciality store they fitted me and I didnt even realize that I had been buying my shoes too narrow! I thought ASICS were wide but once I bought these Sauconys my feet are thanking me!! You can always get "fitted" but go somewhere else and buy them if you can get them cheaper if thats an issue!!

I second the suggestion to go to a specialty store. I did that and now I never have knee pain after running. It's made a huge difference and it was definitely worth spending more to get a quality shoe.
