Thinking about Crossfit

I have been thinking for a while about joining Crossfit. Looked up our club and was shocked on the prices. I understand its worth it and I prefer working out in a class/club environment as it pushes me more. But just not sure on the monthly fee.

Looking for a shout out from all the ones who have tried it or are in it now. Is it worth it compared to a class at your basic gym?

I have a gym by me but like you I'm deterred by the price. I joined another health club for 20 a month and they have classes that incorporate plyometrics. When I see crossfit I think of biggest loser work outs (moving a big tire etc.) so I'm doing the biggest loser last chance work out dvd. It's not a large tire but it's still lifting with cardio which I think is the point. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I've been a member of crossfit for 2 years. Although it is more expensive than typical gyms, you receive daily hands-on coaching, which you never get in a gym. The workouts are always varied and you never get bored. I think it is worth every penny.

I too was deterred by price but like redfox said it is a personal hands-on experience. If I was to spend money on a gym membership I would likely go there since normal gyms annoy me. I liked that at crossfit people went to work out and not bs and walk around looking at themselves. All gyms should be like that.

I woul love to do crossfit but the gyms that offer it near me are actual crossfit gyms and they don't have a monthly fee. It is straight up expensive. I, hopefully some day able to do it because it looks like something I wouldreally love to get me in shape.

The closest actual CrossFit gym near me is an hour away . But the gym that I work at offers a CrossFit class (from a CrossFit certified teacher) once a week. I took it for a few sessions (probably 10-15 classes?) and, while I LOVED how short and intense it was, I had to stop taking the class this past session because I started working with a personal trainer instead. I found that, for some of the workouts, doing so many repetitions of the same exercise really irritated my back (I've had chronic back pain for life) and it just wasn't worth it for me. I know that is something that CrossFit haters complain about: the amount of repetitions you have do during some workouts and how some workouts have to be done as fast as possible. Haters complain that working out at this speed/intensity sacrifices form in some clients. *shrugs* I know there were times during some workouts my form faultered due to exhaustion but maybe that's just me!

I say give it a try, if you can. Does your CrossFit gym offer Foundations classes? The one that's an hour from me did (3 class, 3 hours each) and I took them before taking the CrsosFit class at my gym. I enjoyed the Foundations classes, for sure!

Also, if you look online you can find a TON (hundreds) of CrossFit workouts and you don't have to pay for them. If you have the equipment at home you can do the exercises at home or even at your gym with their equipment. If you have the time to look up the exercises to make sure you're doing the correct form for the exercises that might be a place to start instead of shelling out 100s of dollars for a CrossFit gym membership you might not even end up liking! Just a suggestion :)

For me its more about the environment and the exercise. I really like intense workouts and try to do them at home. But I know I will push it a lot more and get pushed a lot more in an environment like that. Still don't know what I will do.

I have noticed that a lot of smaller gyms are starting to offer crossfit style programs.
