I'm new here. I am 5'8" tall and weigh 181. I have gained 15 pounds in the past year. I'm done. I need to get my body back. I hope to lose 30 pounds in the long run. I started this from suggestions of friends...but I'm not sure what I'm doing. I set up a profile and have been entering my meals and exercise. Is that all there is to it?

I have NEVER been a calorie counter. Did WW 12 years ago and it worked. Then I had 2 kids....

It tells me to eat 1400 calories a day - is that calculated from my weight, height and job activity (sitting at a computer)?

Are there recipes posted anywhere?

I would love tips, tricks and advice! Thanks.

1400 sounds about right to me. I was 183 when I started at 5'5" and I was originally set up at 1500 I think. Remember it will be important to readjust your goals, maybe every ten pounds or so to get a new calorie goal set up for yourself. You may be tempted to try the 2 pounds per week loss and might get a goal of 1200. I do not recommend that, but of course it is up to you. This stuff all depends on the individual.

Best of luck to you and feel free to add me as a friend if you would like.
  • Hello. I decided to change things for myself. I went off processed food, all wheat products....been doing this for 2 months now, and I'm down almost 36 pounds total. 32 pounds here cause I started counting here after I started changing how I eat.

Counting really works...I have the smartphone for android app, which sync's beautifully. I aim to eat 500 calories less than my daily goal, that was it gives me minimun 1 pound a week (3500 calories)....but I've been doing better than that because I don't tend to always record all the exercise I do.

Hang in there...this will be the best thing you've ever done for yourself.

BTW...this is my daily routine...I'm a big guy and I'm never hungry eating this menu:

    Breakfast:

1/4 cup steel cut oatmeal, 1 cup wild blueberries, 1/2 grapefruit.
    Black Coffee

    Lunch:

Small salad with chicken and homemade olive oil/lemon juice/garlic dressing.

    Dinner:

    Salmon filet or chicken breast
Lots of veggies (steamed or stir fried)

    NO EATING AFTER 7:00 PM.
