So my washer and dryer have gone bye-bye. Hubby left drill bits in his pockets so the washer now puts holes in the clothes and only 1 of the 3 cycles works. Dryer smells like it's catching fire if used over 10 minutes.

They're 10 years old so they've done well for me. However, need advice on front load versus top load. I hear front load one break faster, that top load isn't as efficient...and why would I need steam cleaning in the dryer?!?!? Too many options.

So I'd love to hear about front versus top on the washers, and any brand preferences. Need to stay around $700 for each piece, though I've seen some $1400 LGs on clearance for $600 at Sears.

Thanks!!!! :flowerforyou:

I had a front load (Kenmore) and hated it totally and completely. The washer lasted 5 years, the dryer 4 years. I replaced them with GE. I got the top load GE washer with no agitator. I love it! I've had the washer for 2 years and the dryer for 3.
