I am restarting my weight loss. I am 216 lbs and want to lose 35 lbs. I struggle staying motivated so all the encouragement is needed. I am 40 and have a wonderful wife and 2 awesome children (14 yr old boy and 10 yr old girl).

Motivation is the key, I'll gladly help. Well done on deciding to change things.0

My best friend says this all the time. She says she wishes she had the motivation to go and exercise. I tell her that the motivation doesn't just come by itself. I am never motivated to go out and run or work out in the mornings. The motivation comes AFTER you exercise. Exercising is a great way to motivate yourself to eat better because you won't want to undo the exercise with bad food. In addition to motivation, exercise will provide you with energy which will keep you more active and you will burn more calories. I think it is great that you are looking to make a change. Just exercise even when you don't feel like it. Go out and walk and once you get started it usually gets easier. Good luck!0

That's true, you almost always feel better after exercise and are more likely to keep to a good routine following it. Just be aware that changing too many things too fast can lead to imminent disaster, so gradual changes may be a better option than jumping in the deep end where food and exercise are concerned. I give myself 2 weeks of proper healthy eating and master it before I consider adding more exercise, it works for me. Good luck chuck.0

Thanks for the advise. I do feel great after working out. Even if I don't feel it before I go, I always am glad I did, and very motivated to keep going. I am trying to do different activities to keep me from getting bored. I love playing racquetball, and its a great workout! I am striving to keep jogging. I have to fight through shin splints. I am not using that as an excuse any more though.0

Maybe you could try lower impact workouts, like swimming or the elliptical.0 -
GO go go!!! You can do it!! I know you can. I have faith in your ability to reach your goals. I try not to get on the scale that often because I find it can be discouraging, gage your progress by how you FEEL. Eat clean and work dirty!! The HARDEST thing is to start working out, but crank out two solid weeks, push youself, get sore, feel the BURN, learn to love the burn and you WILL NOT want to quit. I promise you that. I wish you a healthy and happy lifestyle change!!0

You are worth every sweat, tear, and pain it takes to make it to your goal! Keep moving forward! :happy:0

This site is great for ideas and encouragement. I would agree with most about the low impact biking and elliptical. It can burn the cals and will be easy on your body. The best thing to do is to start and stay with it. The longer you are doing it, the easier it gets.0
