Shoes

What kind of shoes are best for walking/jogging? I have New Balance now, but when I walk my legs hurt so bad. Everyone says it could be the shoes.

I have had issues with my feet hurting when I exercise my whole adult life...until I found my Brooks running shoes!! I have the Pure Flow model now and LOVE LOVE LOVE them. I can run several miles at a time with no foot or leg pain at all. I used to have New Balance and they are good for just normal sneakers but had a lot of trouble as my activity level increased.

Personally I like saucony, actually I love my sauconys. However everyone is different. If you go to a running store (not like a foot locker but an independently owned running store) they will analyze your foot and gait and recommend shoes for your feet. Usually they'll let you try them out on a treadmill or outside so you can find the perfect fit. Most places will also let you return them if you are not completely happy as well.

New Balance makes 100's of kinds of shoes... some made for running, some for walking and many others. You should go to an actual store for runners and you will be amazed at how many good options you will have. Do you have "Run On" where you are? A place like that will also watch you walk and help pick out shoes made for your particular gait. You will probably spend a few dollars more, but it's a tiny price to pay for the correct shoes and the knowledge.

You may be fine in a New Balance, or you might like Brooks, Nike, Asics, Etc. Each brand will have good and bad choices for your feet and needs, which is why I suggest going to a running store for some expertise.

I agree, go to a running or walking specialty store. Even if you don't end up purchasing there you may be able to try a few brands out. My fav store has a treadmill and/or allow you to go out and run on the street to test drive the shoes before buying! Also they will evaluate what kind of shoe offers the best support for you so you have a better idea of what type of shoe is best for you. I personally have tried other brands and New Balance is the best for me! Everyone is different!!

100% agree by going to a running store, not just your local big box athletic store. They will fit you properly and the price is normally very close to what the big stores sell. I've gotten my last 2 pairs of running shoes there and haven't had the issues with shin splints or ankle rolls that I did when I tried to fit myself.

I have 5 finger shoes and would not go back to anything else. They have made my feet stronger.

You best bet is to get properly fitted for a shoe that gives you the proper stability and cushioning.
Make sure the shoe you choose is also a running shoe - they are built for forward movement. While cross trainers are made for side to side movement.

    Asics are a great brand.
