energy...in desperate need of it!!

I'm a single mom. I work in a busy ER and my shift and scheadule varies. I've always worked out better in classes or with running groups, but my scheadule just won't allow for it right now. So, I joined a 24 hour gym and I bought different videos, but I'm having so much trouble just getting the energy to work out. I *might* (heavy emphasis on might) go to the gym or do a video a few times a week...but I really don't feel like that is sufficient for me.

To those of you who may have encountered a similar situation or have any thoughts...I'm just wondering...if I push myself to go to the gym after working 12 hours on my feet, and do it consistently, is there a possibility that my energy levels will increase and it won't feel so much like I'm beating myself up?

    are you sleeping enough?

if you arent sleeping enough, then there's no way exercise will give you more energy

^ What the poster above inquired.

And also, are you eating enough?

When I was trying to exercise on a lower calorie diet (and eating back exercise calories), I could barely function. Bumped up the calories, now I have more energy which means my workouts are better as well.

Like the person above said - I've always got way more energy if I do exercise first thing, plus it gives me an energy boost for the rest of the day. Even if it feels weird to be getting up and working out when everyone else is in bed!

Thanks for the input. I do sleep enough anywhere from 6-10 hours a night...mostly 8. Calories have proven to be a problem in the past. Sometimes at work it's really hard to get in the nutrients I need. Then, I eat too much the next day. I've been working on my consistency with eating right, though. MFP helps with that.

I might have to try the early workout...I've never been much for early mornings...but trying something different might just get the job done. :)

Diet red bull works for me. It gives me so much energy for my workouts, that people notice, when the class is too slow to start i begin jumping .
