How many grams of carbs are recommended per day?

If you are trying to lose weight, 20-70 grams are recommended - depending on your level of activity. If you are not trying to lose weight, 180-230 grams are sometimes recommended. However, for health there is no minimum daily carbohydrate requirement.

That is on a food place website. 20g carbs is like NOTHING. i am always over 100g on my carbs...

    That's silly.

Hit 1g of protein per pound of target bodyweight, and .5g of fat per pound of bodyweight, and the rest of the room in your diet can be used for carbs.

When you hit your protein and fat minimums, the amount of carbs you eat depends on how many calories you're eating, i.e., how active you are.

You could certainly lose weight by making it go into ketosis. Whether one would want to or not, is a different question. Personally, I love my carbs, my fruits and veggies, and have no intention of inducing ketosis.

This. I'd also like to add it wouldn't necessarily be bad to go over that as far as protein and fat goes, if that's what you wanted to do. Those are really just bare minimums.

Yup. Carbs are "leftovers". You're going to get carbohydrates in your diet, unless you are taking hellish pains to avoid them. So look at protein and fats first and let carb-heavy foods be treats. They're not as essential, but not necessary to avoid if you have calories left in your daily plan.

Where did these ranges come from? The "losing weight" one is one of the lowest gram range I've seen in awhile. To me it's where the carbs come from vs how much - but generally I focus on other things besides the actual grams of carbs. (Protien, nutrition, 'clean eating', veggies/fruits, iron, calcium, B2, B6, B12, etc)

    That's crap.

Losing weight is about totals cals in vs totals cals out - not exclusively carbs. If you eat 50g of carbs but obscene amounts of fat and protein, guess what... you're still going to gain.

Keep the total cals where they should be based on your BMR and TDEE, and keep the fat/carb/protein ratios nice and balanced - your body needs all of them to be healthy, so don't go low on any macro unless you've got some extenuating health issue that requires it.

In case you care, I average 190ish grams of carbs per day and have been steadily losing over the last several months.

True, it is low - a low carb ketogenic diet in fact. Entirely achievable as you can stay below that with 500g / over a pound of vegetables a day. It's restrictive, for sure.

We live in a carbohydrate culture, so a low carb diet will look alarming. Also to get your calories you have to eat a lot of fats and oils, which isn't exactly a mainstream approach. None of which means it doesn't work when done correctly, like most things.
