What is the best way to find a local personal trainer that is reputable? Are there certain certificates that I should be looking for? If it matters at all I am looking more for a long distance running trainer with a little strength training thrown in.

i found my trainer through word of mouth, even though he works in a gym. i hire him privately to come to my house and he builds a programme that works around the equiptment i have at home, and this way he isnt distracted by other people and because he is earning 100% of the money and not being paid through a gym i know hes dedicated to seeing me get results.

Also look for one who has some experience in nutrition so they can advise you on the best diet

I am working with a PT right now for strength training. I actually found him on an online web site that PT's "advertise" themselves through. I took a chance & he is awesome. I have the "running" part downt, so he takes cares of the weight lifting. We bumped heads a few times in the beginning because he, as a professional bodybuilder / competitor, couldn't relate to all of the cardio that I do. After 6 months, we are finally on the same page.

Call your local running store, especially the ones that sponsor local races & see if they have an affliate with a personal running coach.

Good luck in the training & the Marathon!
