Does a modified push up in a burpee still count as a burpee? LOL! I am not quite strong enough to do regular push up's yet...but can do modified push up's just fine. Was wondering if using an modified push up in a burpee would still be effective. I like the burpee bacause I feel like I am getting cardio and strength. What are all of your thoughts people! :)

I'd be terrified of hurting my knees if I landed on them doing a burpee! So I wouldn't attempt it.

I can't do 'real' push ups either, but find burpees ok.

Burpee is just the squat and thrust, so yes, what you do will still be consider a burpee. A lot of trainers add in the push up and jump.

Wait...what??? I thought that all of those exercises went together to be a burpee...I wouldn't mind eliminating the push up all together! And just do the squat and thrust, and jump! Think I will try that for a while and see how I like it. Putting a modified push up in there kind of makes the exercise oqward anyway!

Without the pushup, I call a burpee an up-down or a froggy. But a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. It's an awesome exercise!

I say just do it without the push up. The basic burpee is just squat thrust jump.

Like everyone else said, you can do a burpee either with or without the pushup. The workout will still be effective, it just boils down to doing whatever you're most comfortable with.

How dare you say such a foul word! LOL! Burpee's are my enemy in boot camp, I hate them! We try to do as many as we can in a minute and I totally suck.

I've seen plenty of people in my class do them with a modified push up. I think modified exercises are perfectly fine, keep doing it and someday you can do a full push up.

I believe you can walk your legs back to the push up position and then back up; although, I'm not sure if that would help your arms and shoulders as you are holding the pose that much longer.

I'm with you on this......burpees are my enemy! And I have never done them with push ups. I did discover a great thing that has helped me with them. I couldn't do them well because my stomach was in the way when I squated- but I do what my trainer called a "military burpee" where my legs are apart more (and not pressing against my stomach) and that helps.

Doing a regular burpee without my stomach in the way is on my list of NSV's I'm looking forward to eventually!
