I've realised i react BADLY to carbs/sugar....

Therefore, I am going back to limiting them. And by limiting I mean getting them mainly from vegetables and maybe having one meal a day where i have carbs,

e.g. toast/porridge at breakfast

protein bar/rice cakes mid morning

Salads for lunch

Greek yog/almonds/protein shake for snack

and salad/omelette/fish and veg for dinner

Sugar and too many carbs leave me feeling gross and 9/10 times lead to binges!!! xxx

    toast/porridge - high carb

rice cakes - also high carb

    Sounds worth a go.

I need some form of carb for energy!!! but guessing having them early on in the day would be better than later on in the day!

Not sure what you mean by "energy" but there's lots of calories in my zero carb breakfast.

If you mean "I need a blood sugar high" then perhaps you need to think it through a bit further. Did you not say in the OP that these are your trigger foods.

Hang on...so do you cut carbs completely!?!! surely that isn't healthy?! surely you need some wholemeal/wholegrain carbs in your diet? i do drop weight quicker and better when i lower carbs definitely but i can't imagine completely cutting them out...

I would definitely add more eggs and meat to your diet.

From meals alone I can get 40g to 50g of protein. For breakfast I usually have 2 Turkey Sausages, 3 Whole Eggs (Scrambled or Omelette...ed) and Baked Beans (Sugar and Salt Reduced), if I have no Turkey Sausage, I will use 4 Turkey Rashers. I had it today and it had 20g of carbs, if I hadn't of had those beans, it would 5g, but I enjoy Baked Beans lol.

For Lunch I usually have Chicken, Tinned Salmon or Tinned Tuna, sadly today has been a bit of a mess, so I will log, but I will count it as a hiccup in my diet. Will count this weekend whereas I usually don't. Anyway, I have this in a sandwich, or make a mildly spicy chicken, tomato and rice dish.

For Dinner, either have beef, chicken, fish, with veggies and potato or rice.

Some days I still have carbs left, but I usually hit my calorie goal already from just protein and fat.

How tall are you? How much do you weigh now? Are you sure its the carbs that are causing this or not eating enough? Unless you are 5' straight up or in a coma, 1400 calories isn't enough

No I don't think that is what the poster meant. View my diary (it is public). My breakfast is full of energy and yes there are carbs, just it is naturally low. BTW, 1 gram of fat has twice as much energy as 1 gram of carbs, that is why a gram of fat is about 9 calories and a gram of carbs is only 4 calories. Fat also raises the satiety level of the food.

Sugar is an inflammatory chemical. I believe that the inflammation can cause some mild aches and pains in joints and other parts of the body.

I have this exact reaction (and worse :ohwell: )

Personally, i just aim to avoid refined sugar/carbs because these are what most spike your bood sugar and cause it to suddenly crash. I have had no adverse react from getting sufficient and necessary carbs (your brain cannot get energy from any other macro) through vegetables, pulses, wholegrains (wholewheat pittas, brown rice, quinoa, wholewheat pasta, oats) and a little fruit especially post-workout.

This works for me and might be worth a shot for you. check my diary if you like

    Sugar is an inflammatory chemical.

And here I thought it was a naturally occurring source of energy for the human body.

I also find I do better on a lower carb/sugar diet. I learned to eat that way while pregnant. I had gestational diabetes and could have NO sugar. Really like not even half a banana. Anyways I am always less bloated and just feel better eating lower carb. I still eat more sugar than I would like, but I am only human.

It is.... I used the word "Chemical" loosely. ;) Would "Substance" be clearer?

Sugar and white flour are my gateway drugs to weight gain and I have the same reactions you have!

Protein is amazing in how much energy it will give you. I never imagined I'd ever eat this many eggs, nuts and chicken. Some oats or quinoa, wholewheat stuff is a nice addition once or twice a day. Might want to skip the rice cakes though if once you start you can't stop. There is little nutritional value in them. Or have one - but put nut butter on it to make it a more complete and filling snack. Watch your brand of them though, I've found many have a lot of added sodium/ sugars etc. Others are whole grain or made of brown rice and are better.

I have a similiar problem with carbs. You might want to check out a diet like South Beach with initally starts out stricter (still have complex carbs) and then reintroduces more over time.

Phase one of SB includes most veggies, lean meats, poultry, beans, and dairy such as cheese, milk, and plain yogurt.
Phase two has the above and adds back in things like some fruits (less sugary ones like strawberrys and blueberries), brown rice, whole wheat bread, etc.

The key problem with simple carbs(think sugar for example) is they spike your blood sugar and then drop it lower which drives cravings and makes you feel sluggish.

Debatable. Don't think I've eaten any regularly for a couple of years.

I'm not saying you should have zero - I referred to my zero carb breakfast (bacon and fried egg)

(your brain cannot get energy from any other macro)

Wrong. Ketones, from fat. Google for Ketogenic diet.

You are eating at JUST barely under your BMR. If you exercise 3 days a week you should be eating around 1800 calories a day.
