I have a bag that has been in my fridge for weeks--what do i do with them?

Can I cook them? How do you like them?

RAW = NASTY---> don't like that bitter taste

you sure can cook them! The peppery flavor is greatly reduced. I just toss them in some olive oil with salt and pepper and roast them on 350 until they are soft.

hmmm..that sounds good. So do you quarter them? halve them?
  • I like to swallow them whole, no taste to worry about then. But seriously, the roasting suggestion is a good one. You could also pan fry them in a little oil or nonstick spray and season them however you want.
  • gracias. I will cook them as suggested.

I thinly slice them then saute them with some ICBINB or PAM and add some onions and green peppers...fauz fry ( low to medium heat) until brown and crispy...taste just like home fried potatoes!

Honestly, I eat them raw. They have a bit of a bite, but they're also a little sweet. I guess I'm an odd bird.

I've always used them in salads, (tossed, potato, macaroni, whatever!) Never thought of frying or roasting them, I'll have to try that!
  • Yeah they're a vegetable. They look like little red turnips. Best way I can put it, anyway.

Seriously. I would have never even considered it. Who knew, right?! I think I'll still have them raw.

boil them first, as you would a potato

Then throw them in a skillet with some sesame oil, salt, pepper, soy, and sweet sake and saute them.

    OM NOM NOM

I roast mine (they take on an almost sweet taste when roasted. Just slice to about 1/4 inch slices. I throw a few in when i make stews and soups. They also give chicken stock nice flavor if you make your own :)
  • i've concluded they are gross and are best left at the grocery store. I'll spend my money on something else.

my soon to be ex-mother in law used to soak them in a brine for a day or so, REALLY good.. may have to get that recipe from her one day... espcially since my step-father has an entire row of radishes bloomin in the garden

A friend and I were just discussing radishes and spring onions. When I was growing up, my grandmother would clean the radishes and store them in a tupperware container of water. At dinner, we would sprinkle some salt on the top corner of our placemats, dip them, then eat them raw. I always assumed that was how everybody ate their radishes and spring onions...except, of course, in salads!

shame you guys! they are RIDICULOUSLY cheap, full of vitamins like C.. they have some fiber and good folate too.. amongst lower levels of many other things..

They are a great food to add to your diet if you can cook them healthily and properly!

But to each their own of course
