So, I just got a BowFlex-like machine for free on Craigslist. I want to do some strength/weight training, but I don't want to gain bulk, and I'm afraid of that.

Do I use the BowFlex? What do I do that will be a good workout for me so that I still slim down and not bulk up? I'm kind of afraid of bulking up my arms and shoulders only. ...OR is that all the machine is for?

    I have similar questions.
I have an old Bowflex that is missing some pieces so I can't do everything possible with it. Just chest, resisted crunches and curls, pretty much.
Plus, I'm not exactly a lifter or anything, but I can do 3 sets of 10 on the bench with all the bows fairly easily.

Thank god someone finally said it.

I have a bowflex, and some free weights, and i do all my heavy lifting from that. you do what ya can on it, there are always other exercises that target muscle groups if the bow flex cant do it. Its gonna suck once i get up to the maximum resistance level. However i would prefer a gym, im just poor.

Women don't bulk up... if it didn't come with a book I would suggest looking on the website for the company that makes the machine and see if they have a workout booklet to follow. Just remember to work different muscle groups over the week.

It annoys me when I see women just using 5 pound weights but doing 20+ reps of something. I want to punch them in their face sometimes. =P My co-workers do it all the time because they are so scared of "bulking up".

So we have a older bowflex, and on mine there are pullies at the bottom of the frame that you can put the lines through and put the strap on your foot for doing leg work. It does a great job giving definition not bulk. I had to get the leg curl part separately, it didn't come with the initial purchase. I also use the bowflex tread climber and really love that. Message me if you want more details. I hope this helps.

    :) K.

One more thing..... I do have to watch what I do for weights because I can bulk up..... gotta love genetics! But I don't get it from the bowflex, just free weights.
  • I have a bowflex and can do many things on it. However, I have all parts to the bowflex. There are leg exercises and such that you can do on it depending on the style of your machine. Here is a site that gives a large range of exercises that you can do on your machine if you have all the parts or you can modify them to what you have.
