Spaghetti Squash - First time, help!
Hi all!
I am going to be trying spaghetti squash for the first time probably today. Any suggestions on how to cook? I am going to be mixing it with feta, tomato, onion, black olives, olive oil and having it with some leftover rotisserie chicken!
So what's the best method of cooking it? Oven, Microwave, etc. Cut in half, holes punched in?
Thanks for the tips! I want it to turn out right

I microwave because it's quick. Cut the squash in half lengthwise (be warned this can be challenging, but it's doable). Scoop out the seeds. Place the two halves in a microwave save dish/bowl with a thin layer of water on the bottom. Microwave 5-8 minutes, turning halfway through, until the inside is soft. Use a fork to scoop/shred the insides out of the shell and mix into whatever you are cooking with them.0

Cut it in half - the long way. Rub olive oil or coconut oil all over the inside and outside. Bake at 400 degrees for 35-45 minutes.
It will be fork tender and should just fall apart looking like noodles when you run your fork over it. Not mushy though, stil firm.
Have a great day! = )0 -

Do you cook it cut side up or down?0 -
I microwave it for 4 minutes then cut in half long way. I scoop out the seeds and spray with a olive oil spray then season. I put it flesh side down so the skin is up in a 425 oven for 40 minutes. Then I combine with whatever. I like the texture this way.0

Ok ok! I have a great method! Poke some holes in it with a fork. Microwave 1 minute whole! Cut it in half, scrape seeds out, then microwave or bake skin side up.
the initial microwave will make it a bit easier to cut in half0 -
Cook cut side down. When I make mine I sprinkle pepper on it but no oil to save on calories. Still turns out great.
You can also do in crockpot or cook whole in microwave. Just put a few holes in it so it doesn't explode. If you cook whole then cut the other way (through the width) and you will longer strands.0 -
I found it impossibly hard to cut in half. Then I found out, you don't have to cut it!!! I wash the outside, poke holes with a knife, and bake at 400/425 for about 45 mins to an hour. Cut in half and let cool. Then scoop out the sides and take out the squash. Let it cool first or you will burn your fingers. (Ask me how I know. :-( )
I like it with a drop of salt and pepper and fried onions.0
