Returning to the Gym

I've decided to return to the gym starting tomorrow. I've not been since last year (from what I can remember) and was wondering how I should get things going?
I heard that cycling is a good way to warm up so was thinking of starting with 10 minutes of that, then maybe 15 minutes each on the treadmill and cross-trainer. I want to get a bit of strength in there as well, but since I've not been in a while, I'll need to see what's there now - but what's good for working the abs, glutes and thighs?

Heavy squats would be ideal, but they're a bit technical.
You're going to get lots of complicated, conflicting advise, but mine would be just to get back in there have a go.
Your plan is fine, the most important part is getting back in there. Maybe have a bash at a couple of resistance machines. You can work out a plan another time, just turning up is what matters right now.0 -

When i first went back I knew that if i put too much pressure on myself I could quit again so I just told myself 30 minutes a day was all I had to do and then I could go home. Most times I stayed longer but this took the pressure off. I really pushed myself hard during those 30 minutes with my motto being that if I am going to be there i'm going to get the most out of it. I personally love the stairmaster for a good burn but you could do the bike or treadmill (push up the incline if walking). Tell yourself that in two weeks you are going to add more time each evening and higher intensity. About two months after starting I added weight training and am now at the gym over an hour a day, 6 days a week because I love it and want to be there but if I had told myself at the beginning I had to do that much time I would have avoided it all together. Good luck0

Thanks

I'm planning on going 3 days a week for an hour each day, doing exercises on the wii fit on days in between (which is what my exercise regime consists of at the moment). After finding out I could jog on the spot for 30 minutes straight and with an awesome workout playlist I decided to really push myself, hence my return to the gym (which I considered my enemy in the past, I want it to become my friend). It's also a bit of a walk from my house so that's another bit of exercise (since I don't drive)
