So I discovered tonight I can actually run a little! A bug flew into my eye during a walk outside and I couldn't get it out, so I ran back home! lol
So I'm thinking about practicing a little more :)
Would love some recs on good running shoes. Something really cushiony, shock absorbent, preferably puts a little spring in your step....
Thanks

Nike Lunarglide +3 shield. My favorite running shoe ever! Expensive but well worth the money.

I've used Brooks for years, and they're wonderful. Started using them in the Marine Corps--where I REALLY tested them and put them to good use--and they always held up and kept my feet/shins/knees comfortable.

Of course, the best thing you can do is go see a foot doctor and have him determine what type of shoe you need and what brand has it. Good luck!

I used Asics for years, but was recently fitted for Nike. I highly recommend going to a running specialty store and getting your gait analyzed. They can recommend the shoes that would work perfectly for you! Just make sure they specialize in RUNNING!!
    :) Have fun!!

The best thing to do? Go to a specialty running store (NOT Foot Locker, but a true running store!) and have them fit you for running shoes. If possible, take in a pair of old tennis shoes so they can look at the way the bottoms are worn. They'll cost more, but if you plan on truly running - you'll be happy that you got them.

    I personally LOVE Nike Pegasus.

If you haven't run before, I would strongly suggest going to a running store and getting evaluated. They will recommend shoes that match your gait, stride, pronation, etc. It may cost some money up front, but the amount of money I spend finding MY shoe would have been worth many of those sessions.

Nikes work best for me - but that doesn't mean they will suit you.
It's really worth the time and money to get fitted at a good running store to get the best option for you.

I have to agree with everyone here, go to a running specialty store...(Luke's Locker) I did and wow.... what a difference. I was wearing ASics and loved them,,, plus some of the colors are great! but they fitted me in a Nike... to my surprise. But color was a necessary thing too. It all worked out,, I got Nike Structure I think they are called. grey and pink! Love them.

I really need to find a good shoes for all around workouts. Any advice? I dont like shoes without support because I roll my ankle easy in them and I dont like big chunky ones either. I bought a pair from finish line online and they didnt work out well and spent to much money to keep buying shoes to try. Just need one good pair. Thanks!

Ditto to the getting fitted properly. My running shoes used to be Asics Nimbus Gel but they changed the tread a few years ago and then all they did was pick up rocks. So I had to shop around for something comparable (something cushiony) and found that I liked Mizuno Wave Creation and Asics Gel Landreth. To save money and to see if I could get by with less of shoe, I tried out Brooks Ghost (for my longest runs) and Saucony ProGrid Ride (for my mid length runs). These are the shoes that I have stayed with over the past year or so. And just for fun, recently I have tried a minimalist type shoe: Brooks Launch. It's lighter and yet has more "cushioning" than the strict minimalist type shoes.

To answer the question I love Brooks Adrenaline...but their recent model year sort of modified the shoe, so no likey so much =(

And yeah, get fitted. Totally worth it.

If you need to protect yourself from overpronation (i.e. you're tall and/or heavy) the best ones are ASICS Gel Kayano. Love them!

Mine are Brooks, but I'd recommend you get gait tested at a specialist running shop to get a pair that fit you properly and reduce the chance of injury.

I went to Fleet Feet and got fitted and they chose Brooks Ghost 4 for me and I am not disappointed. They also put me in a full size bigger shoe than I would have chosen for myself, but now that I am running more, I see why. Your foots needs a little room inside that shoe or you'll end up with sore or missing toenails! The Brooks G4 is a good all-around shoe, good support without a lot of "chunk".

Go get fitted. It's the best way.

I run in Ascis Nimbus Gels. But what works for me, may be different for you.

Go to a reputable running store and get your feet and gait analyzed. This is a must if you're going to be serious with your running. Get good socks, too.

These stores aren't usually found in the mall. They're small independently owned stores whose employees are runners and trained in making runners - not selling shoes.

My fav is Brooks....they only make running shoes and running stuff. But, I agree with others....find a good running store and get fitted for what is best for you.

I think mine are Nike Dart, but I'm not sure of the specific model. I love them because they're really lightweight and comfortable, with fantastic traction. Shoes are such an individual thing!

I bought some asics and ended up with a bit of knee pain, went to a running specialist store and found out my runners were all wrong for my gait and running style. They gave me Nike runners, the pain in my knee is gone and running is much more comfortable. Definately go and get a pair that suit you x

Like above posters have said, the most important thing is to have your gait analyzed and match your shoe to the gait and your weight. Over or under-pronation might not be obvious to you, but the wrong shoe can cause significant injury and the last thing you want is to derail your running before you even get started! I have a neutral gait, and the Saucony Ride 4 is my shoe. I'm still carrying about 30 lbs more than I should, so I like a lot of cushion. If you are heavy, stay away from the minimalist shoes that are lightweight and very cool looking, but have little in the way of shock absorption. Form is as important as it is when lifting, and I found practicing different forms (based on terrain - I run on the road as well on on the trail and have different running styles for each) is really helpful too. Good luck and I hope you enjoy running as much as I do! (This coming from someone who never thought they COULD run!)

Definitely get fitted at a proper runners store!!

I went over the weekend to an "Athletic" shoe store, the girl got me to stand on a mat to see where my weight was spread and bought out some shoes to try. I selected the Asics Kayano 18 as the most comfy but I wasn't going to buy then and there.

Today, I went into a "Runners" store where I rolled up my pants and the guy got me to walk on the treadmill barefoot. He replayed in slow motion how my foot was placed and bought out the appropriate shoes for me to try. The absolute gem of the bunch was the Brooks Ghost 4.

What he said was that if I was to go with my previously suggested Asics Kayanos was that they were completely wrong for my placement and that I would have ended up with an injury!! And he wasnt trying the hard sell either because I had already told him I wasn't buying then and there either.

You need to find what brand and style works for you. Some people prefer more cushion, some prefer a lighter shoe, some prefer more room and others less. It's all about personal preference.

So do yourself and your body a favour and see the professionals

My Nike Shox, I use to run with just regular old running shoes but when I got the Shox, I was amazed and how much easier it was to run in them and how much farther I could go without my feet killing me.

I don't buy running shoes by brand. When its time for a new pair of running shoes, I go and try on different types of shoes and select one that is comfortable for me.
