So now that I am 40 I have really been thinking about what to do with the rest of my life! I have a nice job but thats what it is just a job I found thank god when i got laid off from my last one! Anyway I have been in the customer service field for a very long time, i didnt try to step outside of this becuz i didnt have a High School Diploma, which I'm proud to say i got in 2011 before I turned 40 and before my 14 yr old graduated from school! My problem is this the job i found is thru a temp agency scheduleed to run for 5 yrs, with very poor benefits no retirment nothing, i plan to take my civil test but what til then! I was thinking about going back to school, I would like to find somthing that relates to customer service and somthing that wont take 4yrs for a degree any suggestions? I was thinking maybe Medical Assistant. Any thoughts?

Congratulations on getting your high school diploma, you're proof that it's never to late to learn and to go back to school. Medical Assisting is a noble career as is any healthcare. Good luck in whatever career you choose.

You are looking for something that cant be out sourced or replaced in the next 20 years. If you are willing to do 2 years I would suggest getting an AS in Nursing. Almost all community colleges have the program but do some reasearch though some are better than others. Obviously a BS in nursing is better but an AS will get you on your way and you can always decide to work up to a BS if you want to go the extra mile later.

Congratulations on your high school diploma! You have to be so proud of yourself.

Anything in the medical field should have a lot of job security and pay pretty decently with benefits. Good luck! I changed careers at 40, too and I am so glad I did.
