Right, I have 18 weeks to lose weight, realistically how much do people think i can lose? I am 5 ft 5 and 11 stone 6.

If you eat right and exercise you can drop quite a bit in 18 weeks, 27-36lbs probably.

For your height (assuming I did the calculations correct), you are close to being in a healthy weight range. I'm 5 ft 5 in and weigh 140, and it took me about 3-4 months to get from 173 down to here.
I'd aim for a half pound to a pound loss each week (using MFP to set up that calorie intake). Realistically, you could probably lose around 10 pounds if you keep track of what you eat and eat well. Drink lots of water, eat healthy and aim for 10 pounds in the next 18 weeks.

The healthy way to do it so it stays off is to lose 1 to 2 lbs a week, I'm 5.5, also and have managed on average 1.5lbs a week, so in 18 weeks that's 27 lbs. Not sure what the conversion is for stones as I am from the US, I'm not the strictest either, so I'm sure you could manage a 30lb loss in that amount of time.0

Realistically I would say about a pound per week. You can lose more than that but I would set small goals at first.0

Your counter says you have 20 to go. You can definitely reach goal.
Although you certainly can lose more, 36 lbs (2 per week) is a healthy and maintainable amount for 18 weeks. (that's the highest I would venture)0 -

OP -- The most you would want to aim for is 1 to 2 pounds a week. You're not going to see those ridiculous "Biggest Loser" weekly amounts at your weight.0 -

I think 18-27lb is a good target range, and will get you into the healthy weight range so far as BMI is concerned. That being said take some measurements and go to a body fat calculator (http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/mbf/) and see what is a healthy range for you.0 -
You don't really have a large amount of weight to lose. I think, realistically, you could lose 15-30 pounds in a healthy manner - totally dependant on whatever diet/exercise regimen you choose to fit in your lifestyle.0

Another thing to keep in mind is as you get closer to your goal weight, your body hangs on to those last 10 lbs. for dear life. If you only have 20 to go, it's possible, but be prepared to have to work really, really hard to lose that final 10.0

Thought I better add, you don't have 18 weeks to lose weight. You have the rest of your life to improve your health, you may have a big event in 18 weeks time, but this is just one event in what hopes to be a great future full of many more events you would want to be a healthy for.0

Since you don't have much to lose you should not expect or aim to lose more than 1lb/week. I would say in 18 weeks you should lose 12-18lbs.
If you have 75+ lbs to lose 2 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 40-75 lbs to lose 1.5 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 25-40 lbs to lose 1 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 15 -25 lbs to lose 0.5 to 1.0 lbs/week is ideal, and
If you have less than 15 lbs to lose 0.5 lbs/week is ideal.0 -

Right at the end you could loose just water weight. There was some posts about doing this, similar to a wrestler or boxer.0

But at your weight, that is both unlikely, and not particularly healthy.
You don't have a lot to lose, and a weightloss of no more than 1lb a week is undoubtedly a sensible way forward. And you won't be setting yourself up to fail.0 -

The heavier you are, the faster you tend to lose the weight. However, you seem very close to your goal. If you want to shoot for 2 pounds a week, you should be able to lose 36 pounds by then (although it sounds like you're very close to your goal already; I wouldn't recommend you lose 36 pounds).0

Worst advice ever. It's not about dedication and hard work....Thats a part of it but there is also a maximum amount which is safe to lose per week/month/etc........Pushing past that is not a smart idea and can cause issues....0 -
How hard you work will effect how much you can lose. You could easily lose..nothing, or you could lose 30.
When you complete each diary entry it gives you an estimate on if each day you worked and ate as you did for that particular day, you would weight X amount in 5 weeks.
As an example taking from mine yesterday, I am starting at 170lbs and if every day where like yesterday I would weight 152.8 lbs in 5 weeks.
170 (start weight)- 152.8 = 17.2
That's 17.2lbs lost in 5 weeks.
Now say I get to 152.8 (losing the 17.2lbs), and lose another 17.2lbs in 5 weeks(going by 5 weeks at a time, so now this would make it the 10th week);
152.8 (new starting weight)-17.2lbs=135.6
135.6lbs would be my current weight after 10weeks. For the sake of argument I am keeping 17.2lbs as the average lost per 5 weeks.
As a total weight lost over 10 weeks;
170-135.6=34.4
So for 10 weeks, assuming I lose 17.2lbs every 5 weeks that's a little over 30lbs lost.
That however, is assuming EVERY SINGLE DAY is exactly the same as yesterday was-which for most of us is pretty difficult to do. My 5 week projection has ranged from between 160lbs in 5 weeks as the highest to around the 152 lbs in 5 weeks at the lowest. Making my projected pounds lost for a 5 week span anywhere from around 10-17lbs. A pretty sizable difference.
How much you can lose, in a healthy and active way, will ultimately be up to you and how much work you are willing to put in.0 -
I have spoken to a physician about this prior to my weight loss program, and he said that, unless a person is classified as obese, the safest weight loss amount is 1/2 lb./week.0
