cabbage soup?

OK, so my progress is slow, but it IS coming off, and I know the thing about slow weight loss being best etc, but what is the general thoughts on having a few cabbage soup days and then continuing as normal?
I know the cabbage soup diet can cut 10 pounds in a week if done properly,
Has anyone combined what they are doing now with the soup diet? or had a week of it to give a boost? and if so did they carry on as normal after? any advantages/disadvantages?

I have tried the soup before. I wasn't the greatest fan of it. It gets REALLY boring after a day or two.
I gained all the weight back I lost once I stopped and returned to normal eating habits.
I don't believe it actually causes weight loss due to the soup itself... it's more of a tool (like meal replacement shakes and bars) to lower your overall calorie intake. Not too many calories in that soup depending on how you make it.
I found when I followed the actual Cabbage Soup Diet I was lacking in a lot of nutrients.0 -
OK, thanks for the reply,
I have found a new recipe which allows more milk and yogurt to add nutrients, but no beef
did you continue with sensible calorie counting after? or bad habits?0 -
the cabbage soup diet is ridiculous, the only reason you will lose weight is because you are taking in hardly any calories and are pretty much starving yourself. As soon as you return to normal eating most or all of the weight will go back on.
It is best to just stick to MFP's allowances, eat ALL your calories including exercise, and the weight will come off.0 -
Crumbs, D. M.!
As long as you're logging your calories accurately, using something like cabbage soup as a filler for "calorie cycling" days can be a good part of your weight loss and even long-term maintenance.
However, keep in mind - for healthy weight loss you really want to run at about a 1,000 calorie deficit per day maximum (2 pounds a week). Up the deficit too high, and you're basically losing weight because you are starving yourself, and it's not sustainable. You've got 41 pounds to goal - you MIGHT be able to speed up the next 10-20 pounds, MAYBE, by using cabbage soup, but you may also find that you can't get good workouts in and your metabolism won't support continuing any further until you make a setback-inducing adjustment back to a healthy and sustainable diet.
"Slow and steady wins the race". Take your time and do this right.0 -
PS: Don't get me wrong - cabbage is an awesome base for a soup and a healthy thing! Just make sure you're getting your macronutrients (fats, carbs, proteins) and not starving yourself to accelerate your weight loss.0
