Hi Fellow My-fitnesspal-ers lol,

I have Hypothyroidism and I wanted to know if anyone else suffers from it.

I just want to know if the calorie goal that myfitnesspal has assigned to you is working in terms of helping you lose weight?

My calorie goal is 1940 ive been thinking about lowering it to 1800.

Thanks so much.

I've been hypothyroid for 15 years, although it's only been for the last 14 months that I've been really good about making sure I take my synthroid every.single.day. I've been on MFP (and exercising and eating right) since March 21, doing my best to stick with it despite the fact that hypothyroidism makes weight loss very difficult. In those 6.5 weeks, I've lost 9 pounds. I feel like I should have lost SO MUCH MORE with all that I'm doing, but I know that I just need to be patient. I have to celebrate every pound, because if I focus too much on my end weight goal, I'll get frustrated at how slow this is going. I don't know how many times I've quit trying to get healthy because of how hard it is for us hypo's to lose weight.

Here's my stats for comparison purposes:

    Age: 34
    Starting weight: 180
    Current weight: 171
    Daily calorie goal: 1400

I exercise about 300 calories six times per week, and sometimes I eat my calories back, but other times I don't. I take 75 mg synthroid daily to maintain a TSH of 2.0.

There's a "group" for thryoid issues - check it out!

Hyporthyroid here and I watch my calories. Whatever MFP suggests, I automatically deduct 500 calories due to my thryoid. Best of luck to you

Thanks soo much ladies =) . I have always followed the calories MFP has suggested but they didnt really help me lose weight. I read online that if you have a hypothyroid condition you should deduct 200 cal but 500 cal is about the same. Instead of doing 1940 i think i am going to try around 1800 calories OR 1750. I will check out the thyroid group online here as well.

I have hypothyroid and I'm currently stuck too. I had some very helpful other members look over my diary and calories, and they pointed out that I was netting way too FEW calories, because even though I was eating 1800-2000 a day total, I was cardio-ing off 600-900 of those and overcompensating. So as of yesterday I upped my goal to 1800 from 1610. Ugh...Its such a delicate balance and I haven't found what works for me yet. Very very frustrating.

Calorie counting for us that have hypothyroidism is soo confusing LOL . MFP should automatically set our calories based on the conditions we have while taking into account our weight, activity , and age.

I was losing weight when I was eating 1880 calories a day but back then I was HYPERrthyroid now im HYPOthyroid

I think im gonna try 1880 for a couple of days and weigh myself to see if I lost at least 1 pound within those couple of days and that would let me know if its working.

Thanks soo much for your help guys and keep offering more advice if you have some =)

how did you go from hyper to hypo? (if you don't mind me asking, if it's too personal I apologize for asking) Did you have the thyroid removed?

My thyroid was overactive(hyperthyroid) then I had an Radioactive Idodine treatment to destroy my thyroid. So now i am hypothyroid since most of my thyhroid has been destroyed. Thats why Im taking the thyroid replacement Levothyroxine
