hi guys.
i am a really sporty person, i'm playing sports almost every single day of the week. however i really want to boost my fitness up too, and so have decided on doing the couch to 5k... problem is... i feel really self conscious.... i don't know why, as i bust a gut to get my flabby backside round football and hockey pitches, but just jogging/running on the road really is making me nervous. i know its stupid, but ive been trying since this morning to get out the door to start this and ive found myself going dont do it!! lol!! does anyone else feel self-conscious when starting running/when they took up running? i really want to boost my fitness, as i know it will help in my sports too!

Definitely! Still do!!
You need to start thinking more selfishly - to hell with what others think.
Hey, at least you want to do something about "your flabby backside", which is more than many.
Go For It - C25K is Excellent!!0 -
Yeah, I think that's a pretty normal feeling for those of us that were never 'runners' and decided one day to give it a try. I've been playing soccer most of my life but never really ran just to run. I mean, why would you do that, when soccer is way more fun, anyway. Well, one thing I can tell you is that running WILL help with sports...it's actually pretty amazing and ends up being a continuing motivator to keep running. All I can say, just do it! Once you get started and when it becomes easier, you're gonna feel like you were born to run and it will actually become enjoyable. I know I felt an incredible sense of accomplishment the first time I was able to run 10k without having to stop. Good luck and godspeed!0

It's not stupid at all. I started in January and I refused to go out until it was dark! My wife started in February and wouldn't go anywhere near our home. My sister in law bought some skins to help keep everything tight and not wobbly! LOL
It's perfectly understandable but it won't last long. You've feel comfortable before you know it. Just put your earphones in, pluck up the courage and force yourself for that first time (maybe go drive to a park a few miles away if you need to).0 -
I felt this way when I first started, but now it doesn't bother me. I zone out to my music and just go. What others may think is of no consequence to me. I am doing something good for me. I say just go for it.0

I did it last night!! Was hard, but not as bad as I thought with the stares- though I did have one guy laugh as I jogged by I need to invest in an arm thing to store my phone as i had to hold it the whole way round and then kept my jumper on so i could stick it in the pocket when i was doing the walking part. will be doing my next one on friday, as have football tomorrow. i will do it!0

I felt this way before. I used to run really early in the morning so not as many people would see me. I just actually decided today to say the hell with it and went out in the middle of the day. Panting and all that lol. I feel like, so what if I'm fat and flabby and running? What is the worst someone can say about me? Look at that fat girl trying to better herself? It really doesn't bother me. At least I'm doing something. lol0

YES! i was just talking to a girl at my gym this morning about this! like i wish i could tensor bandage my entire body or wear an all over body spanx...then id run! lol i feel the exact same! i feel like theres alot of junk a jigglin, but when i see other people run their butts dont look like what i think mine must...i do notice the arms tho, so i think i would wear a tshirt, lol. im not someone who usually obsesses over this kind of thing either, so it makes me feel vain.0
