I have to say THANKS to all those that finally made me realize that eating back some of my exercise calories will help me fuel my body and I can STILL lose weight. I was VERY hard for me to accept this. It goes against everything I have done for the last 20 years!! I have been in and out of WW for 20 years and they always said eat back your activity points after 3 and I NEVER did that I thought they just wanted me to lose slower so I would have to pay them longer.
I do not eat them all back and the main reason for that is I think MFP sets them a little on the high side but I try to always eat back 1/2 and guess what I'm STILL losing 1.5- 2.5 lbs weekly!! I am no longer hungry and my desire to binge has decreased it has not left but I don't think it ever will it's part of my addiction to food but i seem to have it under more control than ever before and I feel so much of that is because of MFP!!
I know so many don't agree with eating them back and I say live and let live when you find something that works for you stick with it. I will be sticking with this!!!
So again, THANKS for all the posts and articles and success stories about eating back those calories it has made the world of difference to me!!!
MFP USERS ROCK!!!!!!!!!

That's something I'm still struggling with. Eating back your exercise calories seems so counter-intuitive, but it does make sense when you think about it. Your body has minimum nutritional needs, and if you don't net your minimum you aren't getting them.
I doubt I'll ever eat back all my calories, I just don't trust the numbers that well. I'd guess I'm eating more and burning less than what MFP shows.0 -
I found it hard at first too. But I'm also a foodie and I soon realized that the harder I work my tail off in exercise the more I get to eat! and the scale keeps going down week after week. It's good motivation to get off the couch and do something!0

I think it truly has been the HARDEST thing I have done this time around. I've been trying to get this weight off for 20 years. I've tried EVERYTHING so as I continued to read up on this I thought what the hell I've tried everything else and worse case senrio I gain a few pounds back goodness knows over the last 20 I've done that plenty of times, but it's working for ME and for that I am truly grateful for this site!!! I STILL have a hard time as I watch it go over the 1200 mark which is what I have EATEN to lose for the last 20 but when I continue to see the scale go down I realize it is working for me. You can look at my diary I don't eat ALL of mine back usually about 1/2 or a little more. I too think the calories burned are set a little high.
Best of Luck to you on this journey!!!! We all have to keep trying to find something we can live with FOREVER and this is something I think I can!0 -
Yes Craigers that is it in a nut shell for me too. We went to the beach last weekend and I worked out EXTRA so I could have extra shots of rum :drinker: It was nothing short of a miracle thought because I LOST weight while away on vacation that has NEVER EVER happened before!!!0

I think of my body as an engine and food as the fuel that my engine needs to burn to run well. By keeping my engine tuned and maintained (i.e getting my body into good shape and maintaining healthy behaviours), my engine runs well. But I also have to keep my engine well fuelled so that it can continue to run well, hence, eating back most of my exercise calories.
Great message, OP.0 -
I am with you all the way. I eat about half of my exercise calories as well. Did the WW thing off and on for 20 years & never did eat any of those points either. I have always been afraid. Just started this journey a little over 1 month ago and love MFP. I eat more, I exercise and I still lose weight. I am never hungry and I feel so much better.0

That is the MAIN thing for me I'm not hungry ALL the time anymore!! Who in the world knew if you actually ate more you would not be hungry and you can eat LOTS more if you exercise. AMAZING DISCOVERY!!0

Where oh, where is the like button on MFP??? LOL It's still counterintuitive for me as well, but I'm learning. Thanks for being such an inspiration, Marcie!!!!0
