I developed hypothyroidism just after I had my youngest son in 2009. I had gained 27lbs on top of the 15lbs I wanted to lose in the first place. It took me a good 2 years of finding the right doctor to help me with my under active thyroid. After being on the correct dosage and correct meds, I finally started seeing results. Along with having my thyroid levels under control, I also changed my eating habits, went on a calorie restricted diet and exercised 5-6 days a week. I did mostly cardio in the first 4-5 months and now have incorporated strength training and lots of ab work in the last month.
This morning I put on a pair of shorts that at one point used to fit me over 3 years ago, but didn't when I gained the weight. And when I was able to actually button and zip it up, I surprised myself big time. So I decided to take a pic and put a side by side comparison. Having hypothyroidism took it's toll on my self esteem and how I felt about my image and knowing that I can actually finally shed the weight brings a smile to my face and hope that I can and will get to my goal weight. I'm almost there and I continue to keep it going!
Thanks for letting me share this with you all! Feel free to add me for extra support
*I had posted a success story in the Hypo/Hyperthyroid group, but I also thought to post here for those with the same condition who haven't found that group forum yet.

First of all, you look AMAZING! I found this super inspiring because we're around the same height and I've also been diagnosed with hypothyroidism recently. Also, you still look like a college student! Talk about awesome anti-aging genes0

oh you are so right! It's definitely not easy. That's why I'm at the gym 5-6 days a week! and eating the right foods and eliminating the wrong ones... now that's a lot of work in itself!
It's just for those of us with an under active thyroid has to work a bit harder than most. Patience is key. As long as you stay dedicated, one will eventually get there!
Good luck!0 -
I would have not thought you were 31 you look awesome..You go girl:flowerforyou:0

Wow! Great job!
I, too, am hypo. I've been on my meds consistently for a year now. I hate trying to lose weight because it *is* so hard for us hypos, but I know I've gotta do something! My goal is 30 pounds by Christmas, and I've been at it for a month now (down 5 pounds). Seeing your progress encourages me that it *is* possible!!!0 -

And yes it is possible, once your meds are regulated. I still have to see my endo every three months because of my weight loss and my lab results always changing every time I get bloodwork done.
30 pounds by Xmas is totally do-able! I tried to drop 40 by May 1, 2012 (my 10 yr wedding anniversary). didn't make it, but I am totally happy with where I'm at right now and the direction I'm going.
Good Luck on your weight loss journey. you can totally do it!0 -
