Garmin Heart Rate Monitor - Can''t believe this is right

I bought a Garmin heart rate monitor strap that works with my Digifit sensor. The heart rate monitor is reading correctly, I used it at the gym and used the heart rate sensors and they were only off by 1 or 2 bpm. What can't be right is the number of calories it is saying I am burning. I went for a 30 minute walk and it showed 385 calories, MFP gave me about 180. Mind you I am extremely overweight but that number seems high. I entered by information in the elliptical machine and got 340 calories in 35 minutes, the same information in my digifit and it gave me 510 calories. I don't want to waste my time using this if it is not accurate. Any suggestions?

Seems high to me, but not necessarily excessively high. When I'm working hard (even at walking), I'll burn about 100 calories per 10 minutes. What was your average heart rate? Mine is usually around 160 to get that kind of burn.
Oh, and I'm still about 45 to 50 lbs. overweight.0 -
my average heart rate is about 141 and I have twice that amount to lose0
