Underwear for Running...

Hello... I have a slightly embarassing issue in that I can't find any underwear (Pants, to us Brits) which is comfortable to wear under shorts for running.
You can read all about the actual issue I am having in my blog here:
http://giggingforever.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/only-in-your-underwear.html
But does anyone know of any really good running underwear that won't cause me the same problems?
Thanks in advance!

have you thought about 'skins'
that might be another option too.0 -
Hahaha, love it! Wear short running tights, with baggy shorts over the top if you're shy, and go commando. You can get baggy shorts with supportive underwear built in, but you might still get the chafing from the baggy bits on the "upper leg". You can get specialist running briefs, but I don't know any chaps who bother.0

I like New Balance compression shorts/underwear.0

i like the 3" under armour boxer shorts for running.0

Pants, pants, pants - the blog is hilarious!
I must pay more attention when I am running on a the treadmill which is in between two running men
Seriously though, have you tried wearing cycling shorts as Pants under your running shorts?0 -
Thanks for the hints guys!
I think compression underwear or shorts with regular baggy shorts over the top have to be the way to go.
I will head down to my local running shop tomorrow!0 -
like the Nike Combat 6" as they are a little more breathable than my UnderArmor compression shorts. Also a stick of body glide is a must have for me.0

How about some coarsely woven hessian briefs?0

Ooh, now there's a plan! I think I have some sandbags lying around here...0

Maybe TMI but I've always gone commando - perhaps a different story for men but hey it might feel good! :laugh:0

You will find the Body Armor and Nike compression shorts running in the $30-50 range, here in the States.
We have a Walmart that sells a knock-off product in the $15-25 range, I would imagine there would be a similar product over there. I'm all about saving money where I can - and as they are going to be under your running shorts - no one but you will now you aren't sporting a 'name' brand.
Perhaps the Nike and Body Armor are better, but for the limited running I do, I prefer to save the $$.0 -
I wear Nike Dri Fit running shorts, which have a sewn in brief (like a bathing suit, but solid, not mesh). But I chafed pretty bad during my half marathon, so if that's your problem, that may not help. I haven't had any issues lately though. I dont wear anything else under it, just the shorts.0

Definitely agree with the Nike combat or the Under Armor heat gear... I have both. For me, the Under Armor fit a bit more comfortably, but both do the job.

Thanks very much everyone- just popped out to my local sports shop and managed to pick up one pair of Nike combat and one pair of Under Armor compression pants/ shorts!
Let's see how it goes next time I head out...0 -
no underwear. a good pair of lined running shorts. The fewer layers and material thickness the better. And as someone else said... Body Glide is your friend.0

Oh it works alright. I have been doing it for years with no issue. COMMANDO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
Bicycle shorts underneath a pair of regular shorts. It's the only solution that allows me to run comfortably for multiple - um, carrying and jostling - reasons.
Not all of them are suitable to the task, though. Buy a single pair and test before buying extras. I've had no luck with one particular UnderArmor product (no support, so jostling ache isn't prevented). But once you find something that works, stock up. Manufacturers occasionally change or stop carrying a product line, and then you're back in the "testing" phase again. And since I only wear them for running, they last a ridiculously long time.0 -
You can always go with a good athletic supporter. The support well, and breath well.0

I find I need support for longer distances, but commando under running tights or shorts does work0 -
Oh my god, mate, that blog post was my life, well my life with boxers! I get a big prob with chaffing and the likes. And I found when it got dark in the cold I wore skin tight running lycra trouser things. And my baggy shorts over them. My legs didn't rub and it was fantastic, I want to find the same only shorter to wear as effectlively 'boxers shorts'. Think I'm going to order online now!0
-
Also if you happen to get any chaffing issues I can personally recommend Lanacaine, from Boots, bloody amazing.0

Oh my fabrolata is massive hahaha0

C9 lined running shorts work for me and they're cheap. I did a marathon in them with no problem, although I might have added body glide as insurance. I use aquaphor for biking now, so if I ran long I'd probably use that.
If you do get chaffed, Desitin (or other baby diaper rash cream) works miracles. We keep having kids, so we've had in in the house for years now.0 -
Thanks very much everyone- just popped out...
That's dangerous in this thread!0 -

Thanks for confirming that I'm not the only one with this problem!
I'm glad I posted this blog here- when I put it on my Facebook and Twitter, my friends all disowned me... But you guys "get it"!0 -

LMAO!!!!!!!!0 -
Tried out the Nike compression shorts last night and they worked a treat - good tip. The Body Armor ones are for tomorrow.
On another note, I tried on the Nike shorts and came into the living room where my girlfriend was watching TV, to ask her if she thought I could get away with wearing *just* those.
She distractedly said, "yeah, don't see why not..."... before looking closer and going "actually, oh my god, no way!"
So I will be wearing baggy shorts over the top I think!0 -

LOL.
You could probably pull it off running in the street, but wear the baggy shorts in the gym.0 -
Well, I prefer to run in a g-string, but I'm not sure if that's your cup of tea ;x0
