Ok So I have Hypothyroidism....yeah yeah we have all herd this...no I am not using it as an excuse, it is just a peice of info you will need...lol. Ok so I have that I keep my calories between 1200-1400 perday. I do 30 minutes of cardio a day. Either high intensity aerobics, or elliptical. On the elliptical days (3 days out of the week) I lift weights and do a "strength work out" Before I "plateaued" (thanksgiving time last year) I lost 50 lbs! Then I just quit losing. I tried upping calories, lowering them, more exercise, no exercise, and any combination of them you can think of....and NOTHING! then I started getting sick , my hair breaking, no energy, and well a **** ton of other things. come to find out I am hypothyriod...YAYY!!!! NOT! :grumble: So I have been sticking to my diet...like I said above...and one week I will lose a **** ton of weight like 3 lbs! then gain back 4! literally over night...I know it is most likely water weight since it is so fast that it happens. But even if it is I am no longer losing any fat. I have (since educating myself on MFP) NEVER taken a short cut like a pill or a crash diet to lose the 50 lbs I did. I did it by eating better and moving my body! But I find myself feeling so sad, desperate, let down, worried that all of my hard work was such a waste. So I am thinking of asking my dr. for some help. For a prescription pill, drink, what ever to maybe help me get some more of it off. But I feel if I do this then I am taking the easy way out...I feel if I ask I am just being a P*ssy, A wuss. which I haven't been before. But I was also losing before. So what do you think? would I be taking the losers way out of things if I asked my doc for help? Would I be a P*ssy?? And please be gentle...I am sad enough with out people being *ssh*les.
Was asked if on medication for the Hypothyroid ...A: Yes...And it is making me feel better, just not helping with weight loss:mad:

Are you being medicated for your hypothyroidism now? You don't say anything about this. I hope you are, if not, then you should be.0

Are you taking medication to control your thyroid? Do you have it stabilized?
If not, this needs to be your first course of action.
Once you have your thyroid stabilized, guess what. You are just like everybody else.
If you do have your thyroid stabilized then this is not the problem and you should take a closer look at your food and exercise calories and your breakdown of macros.
In the end, you don't need a diet pill.
You can do this.
Good luck.0 -
Talk to your Doctor. Is a Diabetic who takes pills or injects insulin a loser? No. So if you need medication, then take it.
Once you do that, then stick with healthy eating & exercise. And be patient. Good luck!0 -
I would say go ahead and ask your doctor. Although I know that if your doc is anything like mine they will not give you anything, but they may have a few pointers that will help or at least boost your confidance. Good luck i am in the same boat as you are although i haven't lost the initial 50lbs so congrats on that weight loss, that is something to be proud of.0

Oh shoot yes I should add that...YES I am on medication for it. I feel a lot better but nothing is helping in the weight department.0 -
I would mix up your workout routine. You've dropped 50#. That's awesome and your body can totally handle more work than 30 min on the elliptical. Maybe try some running? Definitely try some strength training. That will really help you break a plateau (plus it's fun). Don't rely on machines. Get yourself a good program (forum search New Rules of Lifting, or Stronglifts, or Starting Strength).
Also, take pictures and measurements. My weight is impossible to be positive about. My measurements however, are awesome....:)0 -
Asking for help when you need it isn't being a 'P8ssy', as you say.
Giving up because it's 'hard' is, imo. Losing weight is hard. Keep that in mind and get used to it. Make up your mind if you really want to lose and stick to it. Sure I sound like a b*tch, but that's really what it all boils down to. Dedication and discipline are necessary to achieve your goals.
That said, I think you really should go to your doctor for advice. Tell him exactly what your goals are and the problems. Have him design you a meal plan, then ask if he knows any trainers that could accommodate your needs.
Then it's all up to you.
I was browsing one of my favorite supplement 's fb page and they have motivational quotes daily. Two of the ones that stuck to me most were:
- "If it's important to you, you will find a way. If not, you'll find an excuse." and the other one is:
- "If you're tired of starting over, STOP GIVING UP".
I tell myself these everyday when I start getting lazy to go to the gym. And it works. GL to you.0 -
Maybe ask your doctor to refer you to a nutritionist? They might be able to help you figure out what's going on. Plateaus are a common complaint here for a reason!0

OF COURSE NOT. Go ahead and ask your doctor. You can be like this all your life just ask and your doctor will know what happens. They always have a solution and you will feel better and more happy0

Hun......you are not taking the p***y way out at all. I know this is an new thing for you to deal with and I know that you have done everything in your power to lose weight First of all don't be so hard on yourself! If you need a little extra help to get you over the plateau, then do it. Who is anybody to judge you anyways.....nobody is in your exact shoes. If you think your doctor can help you, then I say do it! A question though....have you taken your measurements since your plateau? have you noticed a difference? It's hard to only rely on that scale because you are gaining muscle at the same time and the loss won't reflect what the scale says. I do NOT think you are taking the easy way out. I know how hard you have been busting your *kitten*!! You are and always will be a rock star to me!!!0

Not a ***** you just have a medical condition that you need to work around to achieve your goal. Thyroid problems make it hard for people to lose weight. You should talk to your doctor maybe they can make a meal plan for you.0

It can take a long time to get your thyroid levels to a normal range once you are put on medication. Often doctors will start a patient on a lower dose and retest their blood levels in 3 months to determine if the medication is working or if it needs some tweaking. I'm not sure if your thyroid levels are back to a normal range but if they are not, it may take some time and your weightloss may be affected by this until then.0 -
Have you tried zig zagging your calories? I did this with Weight Watchers when I dropped all of my weight. What it means is every day you have a different calories amount and one day a week you use a lot of calories this is a great way to keep your body guessing. I was in the same boat as you when I lost all my weight because your body can get used to a certain calorie amount and then it says oh look I am comfortable here and can maintain. Good luck.

My measurements have changed but not much...my thighs are down almost 1/2" my waist down just over 1/2" my upper arms are down about 1/4" my hips are down 1"...I have always lost inches in my hips the fastest. my neck is down 1/4"...but this is all since thanksgiving....BLAHHHH lol0 -
yes your hypothyroidism is a setback but.... how did you lose those 50lbs last year?? By yourself through your hard work and determination. And I think you can do it again. I may go to my doctor and see wh
at they say on how to move forward on exercising to lose weight with hypothyroidism. You never know, there might be a lot of people on here in the same boat and have gotten through the weight gain. Do a search or maybe start a new thread and see what you find. Everyone has dark days, weight gains and want the easy way out but just think of how far you've come.... 50 POUNDS....0 -

My favorite quote is "who volunteered me to be the fat one" Ok so not really a quote...it is what I say to myself everyday. Because I was the fat girl for so long and for the longest time I blamed everyone else for it. Now I know it was myself doing the volunteering....so now when I ask my self who volunteered me...I get to say no one...because I am doing my damnedest to get out of it instead of making it worse.0 -
I think we all go through this! Weather it be a medical condition or we bust our *kitten*' working out and eating right and that damn scale just doesn't move like we think it should or we hope it would. And I think we all get so freaking tired of the dag gone battle of losing weight and being fit and seeing the image we want to see in the mirror but what sucks the most is the battle to stay in shape and be sexy in the mirror and still feel like you are still living your life and not missing out on anything. (pizza, hamburgers, ice cream, mac & cheese)! I think we have all thought about a little help I know I can't tell you how many times I've looked into a pill from the drug store you know the ones Bob Harper, Julianne Micheals but then I worry the damage they could do to you. So your not alone!:flowerforyou: Hugs!
Hell I even got up this morning and said that's it I'm starting back on Slim Fast! But I just can't do that! Slim Fast truely is so punishing!!!0
