Confusion over calories!! HELP

Hi All,

I have been a member of MFP for the last year or so, being comitted for a month or so and then endulging for longer (!) but have now decided to start taking my weight loss seriously after a particularly disaterous shooping trip this weekend! :(

my question is this; i was all ready to start on MFP eating around 1300-1400 calories a day, and doing 30 day shred to start to shift some poundage. But then I read about this book, The New Rules of Lifting for Women, and this has skewed my whole idea of fitness and healthy eating in general!!

The book recommends much higher calories a day (around 2000 from memory) of clean food and 3 weight sessions a day.

Before the book, I was planning on doing 30DS each day for 30 days, with 1300cals of mostly clean food with a few things like weightwatchers biscuits etc

so my question is......HELP!! both claim to work, but both contradict each other? Any help greatly appreciated as would like to start SOMETHING today, but dont know what is right to do!!!

You can find conflicting, confusing information ANYWHERE you look so my advice is to find only one and stick with it. Be confident in yourself to come up with a plan on your own instead of looking in books etc... Go ahead and start looking stuff up that is the only way you will get educated on nutrition and exercise but then after a while you will get good at doing it on your own. If you do the 30 day shred do it every other day if you are not use to working out. I have been going through the exact same process that you are about to embark on so the best piece of advice I would like to give is take baby steps. Don't do too much at once because you will burn yourself out quickly, give up and go back to a bad shopping day. I do the shred level 1 every other day and the other days I walk/run the treadmill. I will continue with this routine until I FEEL that it is time for me to move on. Remember, you can modify anything you eat or any exerciser you do. If you go slow and make it comfortable but remain diligent then you will see progress. I know I am making progress but I wish I LOOKED as skinny as I am starting to feel. You can do this, just don't give up and you're not the only one going through it. Good Luck!

    Hey,

I have been lifting and also doing cardio very consistently for about 1 1/2 months. I have been eating about 1200 calories a day, and burning about 500-600 (sometimes more sometimes a bit less) during various exercises at least 5 days/ week. I have lost fat, and gained lean muscle. Overall I have lost 6.5 inches and 3% BF.
I could be wrong but just lifting w/ no cardio is just going to build muscle and leave you with most of the fat.
    Hope this helps, good luck!
