I heard this book is a good started, I think I'm going to try it myself!

I agree with the New Rules of Lifting suggestion. It's a great place to start! I'm on Stage 5 and loving it. I may try Strong Lifts 5x5 next0

Strong Lifts 5X5 is free on line... also a group:

I've added a kettle bell DVD routine, I have a 5 pound and a 10 pound - bought at Wally world, came with a DVD and than got Jillian's "get ripped". They are really fun and you feel great after you get used to it, trims middle because you have to engage your abs to swing the kettle bell - real gain for the amount of effort. great for whole body, particularly upper.0

Hi... good for you for wanting to get better & bumping up your work-outs
I've recently gotten to the same place... doing great with cardio but needing to work on my muscles. If you're a total beginer like me I've heard that DVD's like 30 day shred are really helpfull with building muscels. NROLFW sounds awesome... i would read that but I'm not the kind to just read and do... I need a step by step visual for now.
I recently purchased "my fitness coach" for wii.... it's not crazy lifting but it gets you doing upperbody, lower body & core. I just started so I can't tell you yet how it's changed my body but i can tell you for the 2 times I've done it I've been super hurty the next day which is a good sign.
The nice thing about it is you choose your duration... 15/30/60 minutes & it does get your heartrate up too! :drinker:0 -
i want to build my muscle and tighten up. i had a c secion and have a muffin top i think thats what you call it and i can't stand it.0

No, not everyone is a mind reader like yourself so those of us who aren't do not know what the op means. Does se mean firm up, shred body fat a bit to maintain a soft look, or does she want to shred to the point that she has a distinguishable 6 pack? Since you are a mind ready, please reveal to us what the op means.0 -
you know i've thought about getting the wii for a while since i know you can exercise with it and all and with a 2yr and 4m old i can't really get to the gym. Maybe its a good idea0

okay--well BUILDING muscle requires a calorie surplus whereas merely losing fat to reveal muscle already there would require a calorie deficit. This is oversimplified but MOSTLY true for those not dedicating their lives to a recomp.
I would suggest shedding fat FIRST and then building muscle, otherwise you're likely to be discouraged as you build muscle beneath a layer of fat because you won't see it and it will make you appear larger.0 -

you know what the OP means also. but the argument pool must be low today so you are reaching a bit. take a break.0 -

look here mr. sarcastic ....no I do NOT know what she means. What the hell is "toning?" Conditioning a muscle already present? building new muscle? Revealing muscle already present by shedding fat? What is the ultimate look/bf? Very different for different people.0 -
its cool fpacudan,, thanks I need to flatten the belly, and build some muscle i guess you can say a soft look0
-
so i guess i should just keep watching the calorie intake and continue the cardio. thanks0
-
i need to tone up more too, i have done 30ds and rin30 with minimal results.... not sure what to do now. i do need to keep up cardio to burn the fat off my lower belly but it doesn't seem to be budging at all0

I think it would be totally great with the kids around! There's a lot of just normal games you can buy to play with the kids which won't TONE (hides/ducks/covers) but will still get you moving
At my house while I'm doing the fitness coach the adults in my house all join in for a little ..... mostly just to annoy me LOL but I think your kids would probably wanna do what mom is doing & play along for a bit.0
