I have a lot of pain in my wrists when doing bench dips and other exercises on my wrists.

Where are you resting the weight in your hand? The bar needs to be as close to the heel of your hand as possible. I used to have trouble with my press until I started gripping the bar correctly.

In the case of bench dips try bringing your hand further off the bench so that your weight is on the heel of your hand.

my suggestion, is to one stop doing dips. Speaking from experience having recently fractured my wrist, and previously having had elbow surgery on the same arm (as well i work in physical therapy) doing dips right now for you is not going to help with the pain. Your wrist can not handle the pressure right now. (Honestly if the pain is severe to the point you can’t do it there is an underlying problem you need to have checked out) But if not I suggest you do other exercises that work your triceps that does not put pressure on your wrist.

Thank you! The pain isn't crazy unbearable...but its to the point where I focus on the pain more than the reps...if that makes sense?

Any ideas on what to substitue in for dips?

I've been doing this pyramid of exercises every other day (I do a legs one on the other days) and I'd like to stick to it...I just don't know what might be a good substitution for dips.

Well if that is the case, instead of doing dips, maybe do seated tricep extensions http://0.tqn.com/d/exercise/1/0/M/E/tricepexten1.jpg, takes some of the pressure off.

And you only feel the pain or pressure when your doing dips?

    Yep only when doing dips.

I did standing tricep extensions yesterday in place of dips...I'll try seated next time. :-)
