for the struggling runners out there

I try to run. I try to run as much as possible. I haven't been trying for too long but I push myself every single time. Some days (who am I kidding...MOST days) it's like torture and I have to push my absolute hardest just to complete another quarter mile. Anyway, I stumbled across this article about some guy's running experience. It's a fantastic article. Very encouraging. It even made me a little...dare I say it...excited for my run tomorrow. Enjoy! Thanks for sharing. I feel like I'm about to pass out everytime I run. I've got to tell myself to run SLOW.....I'll start there and see how that goes.

I may run again someday. I've even worked through some of C25K and it really does work. However, running makes me miserable for some reason. I think about doing it and it depresses me. I feels like it rips my lungs out. On the other hand, I love climbing on an incline and cycling. I work harder doing that sometimes than jogging and I love those activies a lot more. Life is too short to do an activity you hate when there are plenty of alternatives.

If you're looking for more good reads, check out John Bingham's book "The Courage to Start...". Great read for any new or struggling runners.

Thank you!!! I dream of running, I haven't tried with losing some of this weight.......yet. My bucket list has me running a marathon and I want to mark that off! All past experiences I've given up really quick thinking it's just not for me.

as i explained, i'm no expert runner. i have no knowledge or tricks for you. however, i do know that being scared to start running (and i mean REALLY start, not one dinky little run) gets you know where. i had been kinda sorta halfheartedly trying to run for as long as i can remember. then a little while ago (a month and a half maybe?) i started really legitimately trying to run without giving up. yes, at first it was humiliating and i was hard on myself at the end of each day, but you know what? yesterday i ran almost 15 minutes without stopping! i know that probably sounds pathetic to many runners, but i finished my run feeling like a million bucks! i normally run a few minutes, walk a few, and repeat. but yesterday my "run a few" became "run 15". trust me, i know it's hard, but if you just forget all your excuses, insecurities and past running failures, eventually you will get there. i don't know where "there" is and i certainly haven't reached it yet but i'm on my way!

edit to add: wow, i didn't realize how ridiculously cheesy and encouraging that sounded at first, but it's just so true. you gotta just go for it!

Thanks for this! I have been running on my treadmill for a few months now and did a hilly run outside yesterday. It really depressed me how horrible I did. I hope in time I will experience the same thing he did.
