For my first 'flat' 5k (November 2011) my time was 32:45...I did this at 44 years old. I've since shaved approximately 6 minutes off that time.

I am 40 and ran my first 5K in March at 40:22. Ran my second two weeks later at 38:44 and my 3rd 2 weeks after that at 41:12. Some days and race courses are better than others so just go out and have fun. Make your goal not to finish last, but to make sure you finish. You will be addicted in no time.

I ran my first 5k the weekend before last. I am 45, have never run before in my life and did it in 31:51. I have been using the 5k Runner iPhone app to train. At the time I ran that race, I was in week 6. I just started week 8 - the final week - and will be running my 2nd 5k next weekend (5/19).

That said....and like others have said, don't worry about time. Just finish the race at your own pace and then go celebrate - like I did!! ;)

Time is not important - finishing is the goal for a first 5k. I ran 18 minutes 5k in HS, low 20's in my 20's and not I am pushing the 25 minutes and I'm 44 (male)

I started with the C25K program on January 1, 2012 and ran my first 5K April 28 at age 39 with a time of 34:01. I have noticed that my speed has improved as my weight has gone down. Good luck to you and welcome to the running family! ;)

My first 5K - I was 36 and my time was 36 minutes. And I finished last. It was a very small race with only about thirty runners. All of the other runners knew that it was my first race. It was the BEST feeling when I crossed the finish line and every one of those runners was waiting to cheer me on! I am now 41 and will be doing my next race in November. Right now I would probably take about 45 minutes to finish a race - but I am on week 5 day 2 of C25K and hope to improve greatly in the next few months.

Just started running, (on week 5 of c25k) and ran a 5k this past weekend. When I ran I was 26, (just had a birthday, so now I'm 27, lol) and came in at 42 minutes. I was pretty happy with that since I walked a couple times.

I've not done an official 5k ever, but have entered the race for life 5k in a few weeks time with my mum (she needs something to motivate her into exercising so this is how we're going to do it!). But last week I ran what walkjogrun.net told me was 5.3k in 33 minutes with some friends. I'm 23 :) but I don't think age makes all that much difference compared to overall size and fitness, and how long your legs are!

    I have only run 2. I am 33.

First was just under 31 mins.
Second one was 30:10 on a really hilly course. Gotta love PA hills!

I have another this weekend. I hope to get around 28 since it's a flat course.

    Good Luck!!!

My first was in 2009 - no training (VERY BAD IDEA) I was 27 and ran (and lots of walking) a 38 minute and some second (can't remember) 5k. NOW I am physically training for a 5k and can't wait to run one with training.

6 minutes in a year is a HUGE jump. You are talking about 8:20ish pace to 6:20ish pace. Those two paces are light years apart. Not saying it can't be done, but don't be discouraged if it doesn't happen in one year.

Time is SOOOOO not important. I asked the same question before I ran mine in February....I had a horrible time - 41:03, but not bad for a fat 40 year old. LOL

Seriously, I had some MAJOR wardrobe malfunctions and cramps from HELL (sorry TMI) and I did it....sure, it was slower than I wanted, but it was one race, and I did it!!!

(I have done "unofficial" ones since then and I average about 35/36 min)

    Good Luck and have fun!!
