Some friends and I are going to be going to Kansas City for Memorial Day weekend since we have never been.

What are some things we should do/see/ eat at while we are there?

Thanks!

World's of fun and/or ocean's of fun. :) I live in Wichita Kansas and have always enjoyed going to Kansas City. :) I haven't been in a long time though due to finances. A really good restaurant is KC Masterpiece and Boston Market. Hope this helps!

Well KC, Missouri is my hometown and Papaer Smnif is right on with the Nelson-Atkins Art Museaum. Go to the Plaza and do some shopping. Figlio's is a great Italian restaurant as well as Hibachi (teppan style place). You can also go up north to where my parents live to Zona Rosa for shopping. Of course, we are known for our BBQ and there are tons of places you can check out. Jack Stack, Smokehouse, Gates, KC Masterpiece, Arthur Bryants and LC's. I am really not a fan of Arthur Bryants, but alot of people like them. There are other BBQ places as well. Let's see....you can always go to Oak Park mall in Overland Park, KS, The Legends which is in Kansas and there are a ton of food places and shopping to do there. If you like theme parks there is Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun (haven't been there in years, but sure it's still nice). I currently live in Dallas by the way and left KC when I graduated from college.

The downtown square is pretty nice. The BBQ is great and you can do better than Boston market. The art place is pretty cool.

*Power and Light for a (pricey) night out-lots of options for restaurants/clubs.

*Plaza for upscale shopping, eating, fountain seeing and good walking

*Westport or Brookside for more low-key bar/pub scene

*Kauffman stadium for a Royals game!

*Town Center in Overland Park, KS for some fine dining.

Nelson-Atkins is a great museum and right now, they have the partial collection of Huguette Clark, the recluse millionaire heiress who died in NYC recently. The aquarium just opened up in Crown Center a few weeks ago and it is amazing. The Lego Discovery Center is opening up next week at Crown Center and I have heard it's going to be pretty neat. In Independence, near KC, is Truman's home and museum and that is interesting if you like history. I'm not a Royals fan, but going to a major league ball game is always fun...you might want to check their schedule and see if they're playing during your visit. Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun are located in KC and I've been to both...you can get a two-park pass for a day and if you have kids, they will love that. If you're going out on the town at night, I'd go to the Power and Light district...it has really cool pubs, bars and restaurants and there's a great vibe there.

Agree about the Nelson - it's free and near the Plaza - lots of neat/upscale outdoor shopping and neat places to eat. Also near there is Loose Park - beautiful place for a walk or run. You can also feed the ducks. You can check out the Power and Light district for night-life type stuff. Downtown is Crown Center - indoor shopping, eating, amazing indoor aquarium, fun children's stuff too (Crayola Factory, children's theater, legoland). Near Crown Center is the WWI memorial with a neat museum and across the street is Union Station. You might be able to catch a Royal's baseball game (not sure if they are home that weekend). Have a fun trip!

Depending on if you are north or south KC...Zona Rosa, The Plaza, or The Legends They are both outdoor-type malls, and have a lot of great shops and restaurants....

Legends and Zona have comedy clubs that are a lot of fun, as well! Zona Rosa has live bands by the fountain on the weekends. Mostly Jazz and stuff like that.

Someone already mentioned Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun.

There are also a lot of casinos that are fun to go to, if you are into that kind of thing.

For fun "night life" If you are near downtown, you would go to Westport OR to the Plaza.

Also, there is a place downtown called Crown Center that is an indoor-type mall (a little fancy and overpriced, but cool for visitors) , and there is a place called Science City that has different exhibits throughout the year.

Also, even though the Royals aren't doing so great at winning GAMES this year, it's still really fun to go out to the stadium and take in a ballgame. :)

Hope these ideas are helpful!! :)

If you want to go shopping you should go to the Legends which is in Kansas City, Kansas or the Plaza (Country Club Plaza) in KCMO.

Worlds and Fun :):) My favorite. Lol. I love rides. And Oceans of Fun right next to it and Schlitterban (I don't know how to spell it) in KCK are water parks.

If you have kids, Crown Center has an aquarium and Lego Land. There is some shopping there, too. Union Station has Science City and some other things to do I think.

^ agree. nice to go when the museum is open to see the collection, but also nice to wander the lawn at night: the newer portions of the museum are glowing glass volumes and you can also lurk around the large oldenburg shuttlecocks...

Forgot about Westport and Power and Light district. Honestly, when I got home it's for a short amount of time and I usually visit family, eat and do some gambling b/c if you don't know it...TX has no casinos unless you head to LA or OK.

Live right in between KCMO and KCKS lol I also recommend World's of Fun, super fun! Country Club Plaza is a great area to walk around and visit, lots of great restaurants, fun atmosphere. Downtown KC they just opened a new aquarium at Crown Center that is supposed to be awesome, haven't been there yet. To eat you HAVE to have some KC BBQ. My fav is Jackstack but be prepared to wait. Also love Strouds (fried chicken) but again be prepared to wait lol. I would pass on Arthur Bryants, does not live up the hype IMO. Also the Legends Area in KC Kansas is a lot of fun. Lots of shopping and restaurants. Also have The Great Wold Lodge and Sporting KC (if you are into soccer) and of course the T-Bones games are always a lot of fun.

First Fridays at the crossroads is a great experience
You can sign up for a tour at Boulevard Brewery
    The Woodyard is great BBQ
Power and Light also have free concerts in the summers i am not sure when they start up.
Sporting KC is our outdoor soccer team they might have a match
T-Bones is a another baseball team
Or there is the Jazz district the Blue room has Indigo hour on Fridays music, drink specials, apps from like 5-7
Or you could catch a performance at the Kaffman Center
There might also be some festival you could find that weekend.

Hope you have a great visit!
