Inexpensive Gym Option - Just wanted to share the info

So I have 5 kids (4 under 10) at home and with my husband and I we are 7 ppl. When I went looking into gym memberships I was faced with $300 per year per person (I get a discount through work but still) and my kiddos just get to sit in the child care room.
Then I went to the local YMCA and looked into their program. We (as a family) get full access to a full gym with a pool and classes; activities for the kids not just babysitter services and other perks. A family membership was about $90 a month but while talking to them they explained a program they have, called Open Doors that can get you a reduced rate based on your household size and income.
We qualified (we make a modest income) for a discount and get to use any Y in the area and it's about $55 a month for all of us. 12x$55=$660 for the year; v/s $600 just for my husband and I while the kids sit in a play room... So worth the extra $60 a year!!!
If your looking for a gym please check with your local YMCA - I was pleasantly surprised.

I had been a member at the Y for about 4 years! The gym was great, pool even better! Plus around Thanksgiving they ran a promotion: every $75 you spend on gift cards to the Y, you get a $25 Visa gift card. My mom would get me the membership every year plus about $275 back! They also had a lot of community events throughout the year that I participated in.
I just last year stopped going since the gym closer to me (about 5 minutes away) offered a promotion that I could not pass up. Plus the Y was about 25 minutes away from me and gas was through the roof (everthing balanced out)!
Though I'm no longer a member, I still go up there to support the chicken dinners, pot lucks, 5K's and yard sales!0 -
Yeah, the YMCA is great. I don't go there anymore because there isn't one convienent to me but I went to the one by my childhood home until I went to college. My mom still goes. Plus, your kids can go too!0
