All of these foods have calories in them. Just because they're fruits and veggies that are good for you, doesn't mean there isn't any calories in them. As for 0 calorie foods, I really don't know. Don't be afraid of calories though. You need them to fuel your body!

I'd stay away from zero calorie foods. If a food has flavor it should have calories. Not chemicals.
  • When I did Weight Watcher's about 20 years ago, I remember they considered veggies free 1/2 cup to 1 cup. I'd like to know how MFP feels about that and how to get more specific in adding to my menu..... There isn't a 1/2 cup fresh califlower or 2 white mushrooms, or 2 strips of yellow pepper. Can someone help with that? Water, yes. If you drink the water before your meal, your meal will fill you up and you won't be tempted to eat as much.

there are tons of zero calorie drinks.. and 1 cup of alfalfa sprouts is 10 calories, same with the brand of baby spinach that I buy. Walden Farms apparently has a bunch of zero calorie foods out, I think you can get them at health food stores. Shiritaki noodles I really want to try.

Spot on. Don't be scared of calories - they are the fuel that keep you alive - literally.

Veggies and some fruits are very low in calories which means that you can eat a lot of them for not too many cals.
Add in lean meat (skinless chicken, white fish, prawns etc) and you get good quality protein for not too many cals.
Eggs are only 70 cals each (eat the yolk, it's the most nutritious part).
Your body needs good fats - avocado, nuts, olive oil etc are very good for you, just pay attention to portion sizes.

You can add flavour for practially no cals with herbs, spices, curry powder, hot sauce, pickles, vegemite etc.

And remember that foods like pickles that are listed as containing 0 cals, actually have calories. It's just that labelling laws in some countries allow manufacturers to state 0 cals when the calories are very low. If you eat/drink a lot of that item, you will be getting some cals.

Even if zero calorie foods did exist, what would be the point?

I still log veggies, though I have "green salad no dressing" in my recipes so I don't have to log every single spinach leaf.
There are a few ways to add miscellanous amounts of veggies - probably the easiest is to add "raw" to the name (ie. search for "cauliflower raw") and look for results with no * in front.
These items have been added by MFP and usually have a great selection of serving sized including cups, grams and portions (like "medium onion, x" diameter"). That way you can add 1/2 cup cauli or 2 mushrooms. I often add "5 cherry tomatos" or 1/2 navel orange to my diary.

People talk about zero calorie foods. They have them you just burn the calories up while you eat them. So everything has calories not all stay in your body for long.

contradiction in terms - a food has to have calories or its not a food.

I'm ignoring stupidities in US labelling regulations that allow something with 30 cals per 100g to be labelled as "zero calorie"
