When I read this I think: If I can do 3 sets of 15reps at 15lbs and it is too easy, Up the weight to 20lbs. and continue to up the weight til I can barely do 10 reps? Work til failure.
I don't know if this term is referring to deadlifts or just weight training in general.
Anyone want to shed some light?

I think it's referring to lifting with dumbbells. If you do deadlifts with the barbell, the empty barbell usually weighs around 45lbs. and with deadlifts you don't want to do too many reps, especially if you are lifting heavy.0
