Hey All!!
So I keep hearing (seeing?) such great things about this book and about heavy lifting in general here on MFP, but I'm pretty intimidated to try it! I have never in my life lifted weights... or at least nothing more than the 10-15 lb free weights for bicep curls and triceps haha. I'm not too scared about getting bulky since everyone says it doesn't happen unless you get crazy with both lifting and diet, but I'm nervous about doing something so out of my comfort zone!
I've been battling the same few lbs for weeks and am now really only looking to tone and tighten up, so I'm down to try something new! My diary is open, but please please PLEASE don't judge me based on yesterday... It was SUPER horrid hahaha :blushing:
Has this worked wonders for anyone? Anyone NOT like it?? Any help out there in MFP land is always very appreciated!! :flowerforyou:
Thanks!!
Katy

I just started weight lifting again and have found that it works great. Not real heavy though. I am getting to old for that. I don't think you want to do heavy lifting for tone, you want to do lots of reps. Make sure you feel it when you are working out. Good luck, you look terrific by the way. You must be doing something right.0

Hi Katy. First of all, you look fantastic. From what I understand, you'd like to lean up. I absolutely recommend weight training to do this. You will see positive results; your measurements will get smaller and your muscles will become more defined (very sexy!) The NROL4W is a great book to use for a lifting program (in fact, I have it too!).0

I'm in Stage 1 of the New Rules of Lifting. I love it! I've never seriously weight trained before. And it's seriously my favorite thing! You should get the book. Lou helps you understand the philosophy behind what he's saying first so it's less intimidating. Feel free to add me if you'd like support!0

Hi Katy,
I bought the book and started the program but got discouraged and quit. Right now I am doing the Jamie Eason Live fit 12 week program. Its on bodybuilding.com. You might want to check it out. They have a bunch of different workouts for what your goal is and its all free. Just another suggestion. I might get back into NROLFW after I finish this up.0 -
Ive been doing NROLFW and I am currently on stage 3. I love it because it DOES take me out of my comfort zone!0

I got the book last week and did the first workout last night. I LOVE IT!!!!! It's the greatest workout I've ever done. I highly recommend it.0

I did this program between september and feb. In the first 6 weeks I lost 6 inches.
This is my tummy, note that I gave birth to 6 kids
I don't think I look bulky
and my picture on my avatar can be a bit scary but it is only when I flex.0 -
Just wrapped up stage 1 of NROL4W and it has been a fantastic experience so far. I really can't recommend it enough! There is a group on MFP for it - scroll through some of the threads there for a good idea of what to expect. Really, just try it! The hard part is just getting into the weight room and trying it, after that, it's really motivating to try to do heavier weights, so your own progress becomes your motivation (or it was it my case, anyway!).0

Ignore this, please.
Lifting heavy will make you strong and lean. Muscle can either grow or shrink, it can't "tone," so if you are like most women, what you want is to lower body fat and increase muscle mass so you see a hint of muscle.
I got a compliment on my legs yesterday... literally the first time in my life. Thank you squats, lunges, and deadlifts!0 -
I'm on stage 1, and I am addicted. I am actually PISSED I have missed my workouts this week thanks to this migraine! At the very least, try to get a copy of NROLFW from your local library, read over it, and see what you think. I bet you will LOVE it!!!!0

And this guy (no offense) has NO idea what he's talking about. Read the book. Trust me.0 -

I am just finishing Stage 3 this week. I love it!!!!
Someone mentioned about being out of your comfort zone and I was at first BUT after you learn the different exercises you will probably feel more like a bad *kitten*! :glasses:
For my first stage I hired a personal trainer for two session to make sure I had good form. If you can, I highly recommend this.0
