Having a really crummy day... :(

I went to the gym for the first time today to kind of get started on weight training since it's my rest day. I kind of expected to be out of the loop as far as weights went and that was fine. I was onboard for that. It was a short 20 minute workout, just trying to get the feel of the gym and such. Afterwards for some reason I decided to take a stab at weighing myself on the gyms scale in the womens change room. Bad idea. The scale had me just brushing 210lbs. Last time I weighed myself at home I was 203.5lbs (I started at 210.2lbs). I was devastated. Nearly in tears. Weight is a huge problem for me, mentally/emotionally, I was diagnosed with Body Dysmorphia a few years ago and when the scale moves upwards, I tend to shut down. Anyway, I know I'm not being fair on myself. It was immediately after a workout, I was wearing all my clothes, It's a scale I don't typically use and is overused by many people of varying weights plus add in the fact that I'd eaten breakfast shortly beforehand and it was after one of my 3am closing shifts, the days immediately following which I tend to bloat and retain water.

But... I was still devastated. I still am. I run every other day for about 35-40 minutes, walk as much as I can, work 9 hour shifts where I am mainly on my feet 3 times a week, plus I will be starting to do some light cardio and weights on the days that I don't run. In short, I work out about 7 days a week and eat healthy.

I guess... I'm just feeling really discouraged and needed somewhere to vent about it and to someone who isn't my boyfriend (who, while well-intentioned and very supportive, doesn't do much to quell the little storm inside me). My ultimate goal is to be fit and healthy, my weight goal is 185lbs and to see 198lbs by the end of May... it's days like today that make me feel like I'll never see that. I've been overweight for so long, starting at my highest weight of 285lbs in 2007 and steadily losing to the point of 203.5 in May 2012, but it feels like it never ends. Like it will never end.

Honey you need to stop and breathe!

You will get to your goal because you have made the correct lifestyle changes.

It might take a while, you might reach goal sooner than expected... What is important is that it will happen! The scales are the work of the devil really, I've lost 3lbs in total but 5" from my waist alone! My body has really changed, I barely take note of the scales.

Your body weight can fluctuate wildly with water weight and every scale weighs differently.

It won't happen overnight. You won't gain 7 or whatever lbs in a few days and you won't lose 7 lbs in a few days trust me. It's a long process for sure, and it takes hard nosed determination to get there. There will be plenty if weeks where you lose 2 lbs and you will be overjoyed! Coversely there will be weeks you gain 1 lb back, even if you have stuck to you diet and worked out....it happens to everyone! Me included. But 7 lb gain or loss is water weight and I wouldn't worry about it :) keep your chin up, you will get there! It takes a long time!

I know. And I've only been back at this for a month, as of tomorrow. It's just so disheartening to see the scale go up. I'm going away for Canada Day weekend (June 29-July 1st) this year to my boyfriends parents cottage and I want to look as good as possible. I have another 5-6 weeks to lose a bit more and gain more muscle before the little weekend trip away plus I will be running my first 5k race on June 2nd.

I'm anxious to see some change and I can't.

You are close to your goal weight, you might need to look at your goals. Your focus is all wrong and you sound exhausted.

Measure yourself to monitor inch loss
    Check your fat %
    Check your muscle %

Review your diet. Read some nutrition books on the importance of changing your diet plan every so often and the need for increased protein and less sugar (yes even fruit) and less processed carbs.

I would ditch the scales because your are performing 100% at all other levels so screw what they say. Well done for being that fit and healthy anyway.

I've still got quite the tummy and fat on my legs and arms (though, I don't have trouble losing from these areas, especially not from my legs. I do something strenuous and they're like BYE FATTTT HIII MUSCLE HOW'S IT GOING).

I probably need to tone down my sugar intake (entirely from fruit D:) and I try to eat as much protein as possible (protein shakes after work outs plus lots of fish and high protein, low calorie meal options).

Also, never compare 2 different scales. Who knows how accurate each might be. Try not to fixate on the actual number, just keep at it and you will have success!

I never use a different scale for that reason... I hate when my DR office makes me weight because it is always higher than my home scale. I suggest going by measurements and how your clothes fit instead of the number on the scale. Keep, working hard you will reach your goals! :flowerforyou:

Sorry you are having such a bad time of things today. :-( I too get discouraged with the scale and have decided not to weigh myself as often. I am having my husband take measurements Sunday and am going to start to track those more closely instead. It sounds like you are soooo close to goal. Don't lose faith!!!! :-)

The scale sure does get inside our heads, huh?

Try to focus on all the work you've done - it has benefits above and beyond mere weight loss, and the fact that you have DONE the work is reason to be proud of yourself, and grateful to yourself. You've been making positive, healthy choices - that's something to feel great about!

Ugh after a lot of comforting and so on from my boyfriend I tackled a weight lifting program and weekly schedule for myself while I've been at work. I've planned things that I know have worked for me. I'm feeling more confident and reassured about my goals. I may not be in a bikini this summer, and it may take longer for me to get to my goal body but I'll look amazing when I do and I'll do this with as much positivity as I can muster.

Also, I agreed to stay far away from the scale at the gym at all times. It's not reliable and we have our own at home. My next weigh in will be June 2nd before my first 5k race.

I'm actually really excited to get to the gym tomorrow for my cardio/ run day and even more stoked for the lifting program I have planned for the next 8 weeks.

Thanks guys for the support :)
