Need a buddy!

Options
Hi everyone!

I'm a 34 yo mother of 2 in desperate need of losing some weight to become healthy again. I have metabolic issues as I've had most of my thyroid removed and the doctors in my podunk town have said I don't need replacement therapy. Prior to having my thyroid removed I was 115 lbs and since having my thyroid removed and going on steroids for a respiratory disease I have really packed on the pounds (more than 100) :( Up until recently I have resigned myself to this is just how I am and I can't do anything about it. Well, I no longer accept that and I'm going to try my damndest to get down to a healthier weight.

2 months ago I found my birth father after 33 years separation (not either of our choice) and he's very active, mt biking, rock climbing, you name it. I'd like to be able to do these things with him but I'm clearly not in any shape to do so. Anyway, I've been trying to diet and exercise (walking) but the weight just isn't coming off and I get down on myself.

While my family tries to be supportive they often miss the mark because they can eat what ever they want and sit on their bottoms and do nothing. Anyway, I'd like to buddy up with some people and offer each other some solid support. Anyone up for the task?

Michelle

    Hi,

    Welcome !!!

I also have hypothyroidism (and taking synthroid), so I know losing weight is not easy...

Feel free to add me, if you like.

    Sevasti :)

I've had something similar happen to me, just in a different area of my body and I've gained a lot of weight because of it so I know how it feels.

I'm there with you. I need the support too.

Add me please, I would love to be your buddy. I am hypothyroid
And have been on Levoxyl for 10 years. I need to lose almost forty ponds to be healthier and take care of myself!

Cool that you reunited with your birth father. I am also adopted and tried to search for my birth parents but neither was interested in a reunion. Wonder what it would be like though...

Count me in for sure! I want to lose 15 more lbs. and have knee surgery. No cartilage left, so have no choice. I found the book The Fat Belly Cure at my local library and it has been the very best diet for me. It basically counts carbs, six 20 point carbohydrate servings per day and 15 sugar grams a day. For me it is perfect and I recommend reading the book and seeing if it works for you. Another great book is called Why We Get Fat by Gary Taubes also at the library and is more the physiology of fat in your body. And I love the Dr. Oz You on a Diet Books...great for understanding all about how your body works...amazing those hormones. If your library does not have the books then most libraries have a system where by they can find the book and have it sent to the library system for you to check out and read. Knowledge is power and each of us has to find it for ourselves.

It also sounds like you need more medical information. Can you contact a Teaching University affiliated with a medical school and get some advice via the internet. If you are not feeling great you need to see a doctor who might give you more information. I guess I am one of those ask until you have an answer that makes sense and I think a teaching univeristy will have specialists that can give you what you need? Just a thought?

Glad you are not giving up. I began writing down each day what I eat and exercise heart rate blood pressure weight, etc. When I feel like throwing in the towel I leaf thru the pages and have concrete proof that what I am doing is getting results and why should I throw all that effort away? It helps me reinforce myself. Oh, and when I diet my family pretty much diets with me, I just add more starch and a dessert for them.....you count for a great deal in this world. Sorry for the novel, but your post was inspiring. Hang in there.

Awesome, I'll add you as a friend :) The more support the better! Thanks for all of your kind words. I do have the You on a Diet book and love it. A friend also lent me the Master Your Metabolism Cookbook by Jillian Michaels and it's been great thus far.

As far as the care I receive where I live it's kind of slim pickins. I am going to visit my father this summer in Colorado this summer and I'm hoping to find a specialist there to work with me.

Thanks again everyone for your encouragement and support!
