Menopausal mom struggling to get fit

Hi, I'm 54, going through menopause, and hot flashing regularly. The weight thing has been more of a struggle for the last few years, then bursitis hit me a couple of years ago. I used to walk bunches and I'm trying to get back into it after going through some physical therapy. I got so disgusted with my lack of progress, I looked on my iPod for apps and found MFP. I've never tried a weight loss program before. I don't have that much weight to lose (about 10 pounds), but I really want to get there because I had gestational diabetes and my statin medication can cause hyperglycemia. I want to reduce my risk of developing diabetes. I had angina 6 years ago, so I need to stay fit!

Anyone out there like me? I could really use a buddy to encourage me. My best friend and I used to walk together several times a week, but she's moved away and I haven't found another buddy like her.

I'm at 155, but my doctor would like me to get to 150 -- but I haven't been able to reach it. I'd like to get to 145. I know it doesn't sound like much, but the hormones are fighting against me. I like MFP -- it's helping me to see what is going on with my diet and I'm starting to exercise more regularly.

  • hello, welcome to mfp. i am new here as well. unlike you i have lots of weight to loose. i wish you luck and if you would like to add me as a friend i will try to be as supporting as you need. i understand that each person has a different look on weight some needs to loose a little and some like me need to loose a lot but we are all on the same road to getting healthy.
