Calories out tracker

I could use some recommendations...

I am looking for a "gadget" that will capture how many calories I burn doing day to day activity as well as track my daily steps. Not looking for a Heart Rate Monitor, but instead a "calories burned"/pedometor combo gadget that I can wear and isn't cumbersome or overly obvious.

I have been assessing the fitbit and find the reviews pretty evenly split and other than the body bugg (a bit too pricey for me right now), I don't know what else might be out there.

Any suggestions and recommendations? I am even up for fitbit comments as it is still on my consideration list, but am also looking for any other items out there that will do the same thing for a reasonable cost - ideally no more than the fitbit!

Thanks (in advance) for helping me on my journey :~)

Only other product I've heard of is the BodyMedia Fit. Looks like a similar concept to the bodybugg, with a sensor module in constant contact with your upper arm skin. Their website has units priced $100-200.

I use a HRM so I can't comment on any of the fitbit, bodybugg or bodymedia products.

Thanks - I will check out the Body Media website. Do HRMs track calories burned? Sorry if that seems like a "dumb" question, but when it comes to gadgets related to tracking aspects of fitness, I am very uninformed.

Most HRMs do calculate calories burned. How accurate those calculations are is a matter of some debate. In tracking my calories burned I decided to take the lower of my HRM and what MFP estimates. HRMs are designed around tracking heart rate and calculating calories burned during moderate to high intensity cardio exercise. They don't do a good job of tracking calories during weight training exercised. HRM are not designed for simply wearing all day and trying to get an idea of total calories burned during any given day, only products like the fitbit, bodybugg or bodymedia fit do that.

I use a Garmin FR60 and generally like it, but it has it's pluses and minuses like most products do. Got it as a refurb unit off the garmin outlet website. Polar makes some really nice units and most gym equipment (precor, lifefitness, etc) pair with the polar wireless HRM strap. Garmin's HRM only pairs with the watch unit.
