Phentermine Diet Plan

I am a new member trying to keep track of my calories and food choices! I started the Phentermine Diet Plan today through my doctors office. In combo with the Phentermine, it is recommended to drink 8-10oz of water/day. A 1500 cal. diet with 25-30gms of fat. And 20-30min of excersise 3x a week. Sounds easy enough right!? I hope so! There is also a monthly visit required to check my weight,BP,and progress. Hope to see the results start rolling in 4 weeks :D

I recently went to the doctor and stepped on the scale, 170lbs. WOW. According to my BMI, im OBESE for my height! Not "normal" not "Over weight" but OBESE. So, my goal is to get down in that "normal" range and STAY THAT WAY!

Hi there! I just started phentermine also, but was not prescribed a diet plan. I was just told to diet and exercise. I have been on it for a week and have lost 4lbs. I'm very happy with my progress so far. I hope you are having good luck too.

    Welcome :)

Just being a dad here, please be careful when taking Phentermine. A really good friend of mine here at work was taking it for a while. He did lose the weight, added the exercise, but didn't change his diet. After a few months, his doctor took him off due to it being a "short term fix".

Well...the usual, weight came back on. I, on the other hand, ate a very consistent meal every day. I went to see my doctor who is a D.O. and he recommended I talk to the nutritionist next door. I met with her and she basically replaced my carb intake with proteins. I upped my exercise to a new schedule. I do spin classes on Mon, Wed and Fridays; high intensity and monitor my zones with a heart rate monitor. At the end of class, I finish off have "spun" 15 miles in 45 minutes. Later that day, I go back to the gym for weight training.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I bike ride to work for a total of 14 miles each day.

In December of 2010, I weighed in at 210lbs, 5' 9". I weighed in this morning @ 171lbs. :) Its been a L-O-N-G journey for me and I am still not done. My goal is to hit 165lbs and stay there.

My point to this ramble;TLDR. Do not "go on a diet", change your diet forever. Get on an exercise plan and stick to it. Do it naturally and remember how long it took to gain that weight. Give your body the same amount of time to get rid of it.

Either way, its good to see you start, which is always hard, but now that you are here, don't ever give up. I did MOST of this for my kids. I want to set a GREAT example of a dad not eating fast food and not being a slave to the TV.

One thing I did notice, is that kids are a great fat burner. My 3 are involved in soccer so I practice with them ALL of the time.
  • In combo with the Phentermine, it is recommended to drink 8-10oz of water/day.

Only 8-10 oz a DAY? Maybe 8-10 glasses a day, or MORE, but if you only do 8-10 oz a day, you'll dehydrate. Be careful! :)

Wow, good for you. I hope to have success in my weight loss too. Going this weekend to buy the "right" foods and change my way of eating. For me, I truly know it's portion control. I want to be able to keep up with the grandkids and not be tired all the time. Retiring very soon and want to feel good. You have inspired me, thanks. I start on Phentermine Monday.

I took Phentermine a couple of years ago and I lost 60 pounds, when I stopped taking it I gained 40 pounds back faster than I had lost it. Be careful with this medicine as it is only for short term use, you can't stay on it forever and when you stop you are on your own. I decided this time to do it myself without any medication and I feel so much better about it, I feel like I am actually doing this without any help from medicine.

There is no "magic pill". Phentermine can really effect your heart and BP, so glad to see your Dr is monitoring.... Like everyone else said, this is only a short term treatment. I would hate for you to start this, lose weight, and then become disgusted when you gain it back after stopping Phentermine... The only true way to lose weight and keep it off is by changing your diet and exercising. Before you start taking the pill, why don't you just try the 1500 cal diet with the recommened exercise? Give yourself a chance! :)

So my dr. put me on Phentermine after I lost 80 lbs on my own over a few years with diet and exercise but then I just hit a plateau for 2 years. I was 158 lbs, 5'5. I'm diabetic so he said to be careful and check my blood sugar and still try and eat 1200 calories. I also had another appointment with him in a week.

Well, I was on it for 2 days when I passed out at work from low blood sugar. And my heart rate skyrocketed. I STILL stayed on it hoping for at least a 10 lb loss. I was on it another 2 days trying to eat and work out still. However, it gave me so much energy but no appetite, I passed out again--and took myself off it.

I did lose 6 lbs that week and I did keep it off and lose another few the next week without Phentermine. I think if you don't change your entire lifestyle with it (like any diet) it's not going to work. Those people who depend on it will gain it back.

It's a great kick start to get you going--that was a few months ago and though I plateaud again I recently kicked up my workouts and got back on MFP to lose 8 more lbs.

Be careful! I know you're not diabetic but please make healthy food choices that will fuel your workouts and make sure you realize it's not a "magic pill."

    GOOD LUCK!

The object when you are on Phentermine is to teach and train your body, mind, and your stomach to take small meals (portion control) and to also eat healthier. Many people just dont eat at all when taking them, don't exerceise either lose a ton of weight and then yes - they gain it back when they stop, because they didn't train their body like your supposed to. Phentermine is an appetite supressant, it does its job well, but you have to do your part to make it work CORRECTLY and to keep the weight off.
I took it in 2009 and went from 160 to 127 in a matter of like 2 or 3 months .... and I didn't eat right or make myself eat the snacks every few hours like I was told because I didn't feel hungry .... so yeah the weight melted off me. But after a few months I gained majority of it back once I got off of them. Then I got pregnant ... and gained even more. Up to 189! I've been on phentermine again now since February. I diet correctly and exercise everyday for at least 30 minutes up to an hour. I'm down 43 pounds as of yesterday's doctor visit (146#s). I'm in the mind set that when I begin weening off the meds this time I am going to continue my diet and exercise so I don't gain all of it back. Granted I expect to gain maybe 5-10 back because he also has me on a waterweight pill.
The diet I was given to follow is: No sugar, no added salts, grilled chicken or fish only, veggies and fruits. Eat breakfast EVERY day. Do NOT eat after 6PM. Snack every few hours (healthy fruit or veggies). Exercise EVERY day even if it is just walking for an hour. And get sleep as needed.
I have cheats every now and then of fried fish or what have you but in general I try to stick to that plan every day and it seems to be working great.
I have other freinds that have lost about the same amount of weight using this same pills/diet and they've kept their weight off for about 2 years now, so it is possible - you just have to make it work and eat right even if you don't feel the need to eat your snacks. Gotta train your mind and tummy for what is right for when you come off of them ....

    Hope this helps :)

Also, a side note Phentermine is similar to an amphetamine - and you will go through withdrawals after being on it for a period of time. So you need to talk to your doctors about slowly weening you off of them so not to have bad mood swings and what not associated with withdrawals. I stopped cold turkey in 2009 and almost cost my marriage due to my mind not being right and feeling like something was off .... well it was me withdrawing and not anything else actually wrong ..... lol - so be careful when deciding to take them and even more so when it is time to come off of them.

^^^I have the exact same story. My dr. prescribed it for me and did some tests first to ensure my heart was strong enough for it. I found that after a few months, I became "immune" to it, and it wasn't working as well and I hit a huge plateau in my weight loss at that point because mentally, I was dependent on it. I also hated the side effects. I don't think I slept at all for the few months I was on it, even with taking it first thing in the morning, and the dry mouth was awful. (On the plus side, because of the dry mouth, I was drinking twice as much water). As soon as I hit that plateau and my dr. took me off, the weight jumped back on.

I have been taking phentermine under a dr. care since March 5, 2012 and I have lost 30 lbs. It really was a life saver for me. I was so sluggish all the time, it really helped me get motivated. I do exercise, eat right and drink lots of water (you will get bad dry mouth anyways with the med). I feel like it has helped me through the roughest part of this lifestyle change. I am going back to get the pills one more time, and then i,m on my own.. Good luck.. The pills help, but they don't make it easy.. =)

Phentermine is in the drug class with amphetamines. Amphetamines are molecularly very similar to methamphetamines or methyl-amphetamine. It is speed. I'm not saying you shouldn't take it, because you are an adult and can take it if you want. I was on a different amphetamine (adderall) and abused it, because your body becomes increasingly dependent and tolerant of it, and I used higher than prescribed doses to achieve the same effects. I gained 100 pounds after stopping, despite efforts to diet and exercise. Just throwing it out there. Amphetamines have a high abuse/dependence potential, so always stay within doctors orders and good luck!

I'm on it also going on my last month (3 months). I'm on a 2 week break before I start month 3. If you all have the adipex (brand name) booklet it tells you what to eat, portion control and which calorie plan to follow (1000, 1200, 1500 and so on).

I've managed to lose 20 pounds by following the 1200 calorie plan running the c2-5k program and Insanity workout on my non-running days.
I drink 4 or 5 of 16.9ozs bottles of water a day. Every other bottle I put a slice of lemon or lime in it.

I can honestly say that since Feb23rd I have learned that I do not need that extra drop of salad dressing, or another slice of cheese, or another bite of cake, or an extra serving of whatever yummy thing Hubby cooked.

Today I'm on day 80 of my diet with this drug. After 5 years dieting and exercising and maintaining 185pounds even throught pregnancies my weight finally is coming off.

    GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!

My Dr and nutitionist both decided to put me on phentermine. I've been on it for a week and half. Lost I think 5 pounds. I was put on it because of plateauing for so long. I've been working with them for a year now and lost 30 lbs my first 3-4 months and then I have only lost 10-15 pounds since then. So they both thought I would try this with good success. (I hope because thats where I freaked out if I was to gain it back. But they both think I should be fine since I do really watch what I eat and exercise 6 days a week for 45-60 minutes a day doing TurboFire. I don't know how long they want me on it, but I go back in to get weight and blood pressue checked at the end of the month. I started out a year ago with 1500 calorie diet. Then I put myself on 1200 calorie diet in December, that wasn't working the plateau. Then I did 1200 diet with trying to eat back some exercise calories. But since starting this I now went back to my 1500 calories so that I have some consistency. I am hoping this will help me pass this stage. I am not looking for it to lose the weight for me, but hopefully get me out of the plateaus.

But after 3 days of taking it, I did notice that I didn't get the energy from it anymore....so i am wondering if its still effective for me or did I already get immune(non-effective) to it?

s0ready - More than likely it's still working but your body is used to that energy burst it gives you when you start taking it the 1st time. I noticed I have different side effects from it in the 2nd month that I didn't have the 1st month.

I haven't taken Phentermine but I did take Ephedra. Great results, not lasting and tremendous appetite after I stopped. Went from 135 to 205.

After that I vowed to NEVER take anything to "help" me. You don't know the long term health problems it may lead to down the road. And are you magically fixed after you lose the weight? Will you no longer desire to eat fast food, trigger foods, or consume large amounts after you stop taking the drug? Will you take it forever? There is no quick fix. If you can follow a 1500 calorie diet, and exercise 30 minutes 3 times a week you are already doing the work to lose weight. Not quickly, but steadily. and even in one year of losing just 1/2 pound a week, by next year at this time you will have lost 26 pounds. And how much money will you have saved?

Nothing will give you the results you desire until you decide to take charge of yourself and change your eating habits, learn to do regular exercise, and make permanent lifestyle changes. There is no quick fix. There are plenty of ways to spend money looking for faster or "more effective" ways to lose weight. Looking for the magic pill that will "fix" you. They are all lined up to take your money, one after the next until you realize that it is all up to you. You can do it. It takes practice, but you can do it. If it were easy, everyone would be thin.

This time around, I tried something I'd never tried before. Not giving up. It worked!

    Best of luck to you.

A 1500 cal. diet with 25-30gms of fat. And 20-30min of excersise 3x a week. Sounds easy enough right!?
This bit alone does and would give you a steady weight loss without the expense, withdrawal symptoms, risk of yo-to weight gain and potential health risks :flowerforyou:

Desperate to lose weight, I looked into Phentermine before. The consensus is that it is only a short term fix, and you WILL gain the weight back after coming off of it unless you seriously change your eating and exercise habits. I finally gave up on a miracle pill or drug, and have resigned myself to the fact that I am going to have to work hard for this, there is no magical anything. I wish you success with it and hope that you are able to reach your goals and maintain your weight loss!!!

Does this last statement alarm anyone besides me? ..."DID SOME TESTS FIRST TO ENSURE MY HEART WAS STRONG ENOUGH FOR IT"??? And what if he miscalculated and it wasn't "strong enough"? Then what?

Does anyone watch TV besides me where it is commercial after commercial of many widely prescribed drugs for diabetes that are under lawsuits now because after taking them they are causing x, y, and z? All medicines are potentially poison and taking it just to drop a few pounds is really something to take seriously.

And yes, I hope your heart is strong enough to take the drugs, too!

... have resigned myself to the fact that I am going to have to work hard for this, there is no magical anything.

"Shortcuts are often the longest way to your destination."

Lots of things can accelerate weight loss, and if approached properly many people can even keep it off. And the way OP is using this drug seems OK - a doctor is monitoring its use and will no doubt assist in withdrawal and the metabolic crash / appetite increase that commonly comes at the end of taking a stimulant for weight loss. So OP has a better chance of coming out of this fine than someone who grabbed an OTC diet pill or is on the "kiwi and asparagus" diet.

But what ALWAYS works in people without some medical condition is controlling intake and increasing activity levels.

wow well I didn't think by writing something on here would cause some to act like I am not putting the work in. I do workout consistantly. I burn around 600-700 in my workouts done with a heart rate monitor. I also bike ride with kids, walk with kids, and other various activites such as just being a mom to a 26 month old, and gardening in a 3 acre garden. I eat fairly well and up my protein intakes. I know how to eat good and get exercise! I didn't set out to be put on a "miracle" drug. This was set up for me by my doctor and approved by my nutritionist to get my body past a plateau! Oh my....so you think I am not trying hard enough and haven't commited to lifestyle change? I put in the work...trust me! I would like to put in more, but I am a mother, a student, and have a job! I think I am doing very good!

And for the elevation of heart rate....you get that even from doing a HIIT workout. YES, you are advised to get your heart checked out before performing those in Insanity and TurboFire....so are you suggesting thats a RED FLAG to not perform those? And do you not get heart rate elevation from caffine? So should we preach to those who have to have their 5 cups of coffee each day? I am just saying....your gonna judge me because you think I am taking the easy way? Just because I am on some pill that a Dr perscribed me doesn't mean I don't put in the work!

EXACTLY s0ready!!!! I'm tired of being judged by people who doesn't ask why are you taking this pill before spouting off the easier said than done things people say!

OK I'm going to start my 3rd month on this drug NO MORE after this! WHY AM I ON THIS DRUG???

I have been 185 for 5 years, 200 for 7 years before that because I HAVE PCOS!!! Don't know what that is??? LOOK IT UP!
My diet for 5 years has been 1500 calories, walking 3 to 5 miles a day, cardio every other day. NOT one alcoholic drink or soda or even koolaid!! My weight never came off no matter how much I stuck to the diet. Even through 3 pregnancies I managed to eat and exercise daily. PCOS prevents weight loss for MANY women. I can exercise and diet all I wan but until my PCOS is controlled it can't lose the weight.

So before people start with You're not doing enough, or you just need to diet and exercise blah blah blah, please consider that some of, if not most of us are on this drug due to medical reasons. My Dr and I decided after 5years to do this. It wasn't so easy to just get on considering the medications I'm on already like blood pressure and diabetes medications. And the fact I waited til after I was done having children to take this medication was also a factor.

    s0ready, You Go Girl!
My doctor just prescribed me this medicine today for the same reason. I have been eating healthy and exercising regularly for YEARS! In 2008 I was able to go from 180 to 130 in 3 months on Weight Watchers and I kept most of it off for a year, then I have been slowing gaining in back about 5 pounds a year. I am up to 150 now. I just cant seem to lose weight (mostly in my midsection) no matter what. He thinks the will help me break though my plateau. I sure hope so.

What kind of side effects have you experienced? Two of my friends were on it a few months ago and they said they had to stop taking it because it made them really irritable.
  • I too am on the Diet Pill, I love it. I am actually trying to wean my self off it so I can do it on my own. But it gave the push that i needed. In September of 2012 I was pushing 330. (325.5) and now I am at a steady 280 and I FEEL AMAZING. A little over 40 lbs gone and I love it. It is hard sticking to the Diet plan but trust me I look at pictures now of me at 325 and I think how in the world did I breath. I am smaller and can actually fit into REAL JEANS now. Just Believe in yourself and you can do anything.

I am not going to tell you its bad, everyone already has. I will tell you my experience - it is a temporary solution.

I did it, I lost all my weight. It was awesome, I was happy, my doctor was happy. I hit my goal and I stopped the pill (as per my doctor) and I am here now, with 100 pounds to lose again, and am having a hell of a time getting the weight off.

I get being frustrated, honest I do. But please be careful.

Actually I was on Phentermine and with diet and exercise lost 100 lbs, this was 2 years ago. I took a break with some major stresses in life and other things, I gained 40lbs back in a little over a year and a half. You don't have to gain all your weight back and I'm already back on the downward swing again. You just have to hold yourself responsible. If you can't hold yourself responsible and accountable, then phentermine is not for you. I'm back down over 70lbs, and with a goal of losing a total of another 60 pounds.
