30 day shred

I'm onto day 5 of the 30 day shred with months of running beforehand, i horse ride and go cycling too, eating healthily however i've just weighed myself and put on 4lbs, how is this happening, 30 days hred is meant to make me shredded, not make me put weight on. Is this normal, it's really disheartening when you're trying hard. Thanks

How often are you weighing yourself? Maybe take a closer look are your food diary and make sure you aren't going over in sodium and are eating plenty of protein and drinking plenty of water. In my experience, it usually doesn't have much to do with the workout but more to do with what you are eating.

I am doing 30 day shred also, on level 2 day 2. You just gotta stick with the program - don't bother with the scale until the very end I would say - my scale also says I've gained about 5 lbs - but scale weight doesn't take ONLY fat into account - your body also carries water, sodium, food (and food byproducts), and muscle!

If you don't have a tape measure, get one. It will be a godsend :) Despite "gaining" weight - I've lost 4 inches total. Hope this helps! And don't be discouraged because of a number - as long as you put forth your best effort you are doing just fine :)

usually i'd say you're putting on muscle (30 day shred has quite a bit of lifting). but muscle gain doesn't come on that quickly (it averages about 1.4 lbs/ month, the rate is a little faster if you're very new to lifting).

just make sure you weigh yourself at the same time every morning, after you have gone to the bathroom.

weight fluctuations can occur according to how much water you've been drinking (maybe it has increased due to a new workout program?), that time of the month, what time you ate dinner the night before and how much, your salt intake (water retention) and a bunch of other stuff.

please, don't sweat the scale so much. don't get disheartened. you're doing the RIGHT thing for your body. cardio and lifting some weights. be happy with that. there's nothing wrong with a little bit of circuit training.

Happened to me too. And I was totally good with food that week and working my butt off with shred as well as other things like cycling, walking, and other dvd's. i gained 3 lbs and was so upset. but my jeans were too big on me. the next week i lost 5 or 6 lbs so it balanced out. i have no idea if this has to do with 30DS or just how my body is or what. This week I put on a few lbs again but it is my TOM and I have eaten sugar so I may have asked for this gain. I'll be interested to see next week's weight for both of us.

Also as much as it is shredding, for me, I find my muscles really working. I use 4 lb dumbells and it hurts when I do the lifts with squats and lateral raises. you could be gaining muscle.

Your muscles will tend to hold more water when they are trying to repair themselves (as in after a good work out). As another poster said, don't focus on the scale, get a tape measure instead.

Thankyou thankyou thankyou, this is just what i eneded to hear. After a rubbish day i'm going to invest in heavier weights, tone my arms up, measure myself and keep going. I knew coming on here and asking would sort my head out :)
